Will my CPU bottleneck the HD 6950 2GB and how much? - Page 7

Just tough it out till Ivy bridge. So what, its a bottlneck, Ivy will most likely stomp the 960T, so just take the loss of FPS in some games until march and keep your eyes on the prize (a sexy Ivy setup) smile.gif. I have two 2GB 6950s with my 955, and I know i would get better FPS with a sandy bridge, and DDR3 ram, but The money I save from an intermediate upgrade will be put to good use when Ivy comes out thumb.gif. Also, if you plan to xfire with 6950s and overclock. You would probly want to get a good 750 watter. I have a 650, and it will provide enough power (for sure on stock), but will run a lot hotter than say an 850 or something.

The AX650 from Corsair or X 660 from Seasonic, depends on price.

I have heard that 650 is enough.

Any suggestions to my build plans?

This Christmas:
PSU - Seasonic X 660 / Corsair AX650
GPU - HD 6950 Dirt 3 Edition 2GB
RAM - 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz CL9 (not sure if getting this year. I might be as RAM is pretty cheap)
Next year (Christmas or summer time - whenever there are better deals)
CPU - i5 3500k / i5 2500k
Motherboard - compatible motherboard
DVD Drive - SATA Interface DVD drive
CPU Cooler - either air or liquid cooled h80 or something
Next next year
SSDs - maybe two and put them into RAID 0
Another HD 6950 or a new case.

PSUs are both excellent choices, and the 6950 is a great GPU choice, especially with 2 GB of VRAM. Corsair vengeance is a soliod choice, and the Mhz and timings are pretty standard. Also, like you said, you should probly jump on the ram sooner rather than later as prices are at rock bottom right now. 2500k/3500k will go great with your card and your ram, and the H80 or comparable cooler will allow you to get even more out of the proc. By the time you add two SSDs in RAID, and crossfire your 6950s, you will have a beasty rig that should be pretty respectable for 2-3 years. Hope this helps mate, good luck with the build thumb.gif

My parents can get me the GPU, PSU, RAM, I could use my 300 Euros to get a new CPU and mobo, and DVD Drive.

I would like an i5 2500K. Any good mobos to go with it? I will get the Coolermaster Hyper 212 + as a cooler. Any good cheap DVD Drives?

Sites I will be shopping from:

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3

I saw one on Newegg yesterday open box for $115 shipped. It should still be there, but at the time of this post Newegg seems to be down so I can't get the link for you. Supports x8/x8 dual SLI/XFIRE and has "V8+4" VRM phases ..and it even has an excellent black+gold look to it.

EDIT: Just looked at the sites you are shopping from.

Here it is at Cyberport: http://www.cyberport.at/pc-und-zubehoer/komponenten/mainboards/2310-18Z/asrock-z68-extreme3-gen3-gl-sata600-r-usb3-0-esata-hdmi-z68-atx-sock1155.html

It should fit your budget perfectly considering the i5-2500K is 191 euros on that website. It even supports PCI-E 3.0 if you ever do wanna put a card that isn't even out yet in there as well.
