1600mhz?

Thread Starter
I just got my 2500k and started playing around with the bios. I raised the multi a little and got it up to 4ghz. It booted, primed just fine. I kicked it up a little more just to see and also oc the mem to 1866mhz. No boot. Which is ok, so I hit the mem test button to reset it all.

Now CPU-z read 1600mhz? ***? Ive ran a few games and it seems like its running the way it should be, but what is with this in accurate reading?

your cpu is throttling i dont know alot about SB but see if there is a speed step setting in the BIOS turn that off

There's no reason to turn speed step off with a Sandy Bridge CPU. It does not affect your ultimate OC. EIST in the 2nd gen core processors is slightly different than the speedstep of past processors.

Letting the CPU step down to 1600Mhz when it is at idle, helps to the keep the CPU cooler as the CPU multipler drops to 16, and the voltage to the CPU is also lowered. Saves energy too.
