University life is sad
In the end, yes, the purpose of every business is profit. The way they achieve that, though, is very different. Some treat their customers well and give them everything they can reasonably at a certain price. Others give you as little as they can at a certain price to make their customers pay more without the company giving them more.

Again, Siri was initially a free app for the iPhone 4. Apple bought it. They made a newer better version and pulled the old version from the store. The iPhone 4 can run both the 4S version and the old version, but Apple has made the app exclusive to their new shiny 4S. Why?

Clearly it's been proven...So, other than greed, why isn't it available?
You answered your own question. That's the only reason.

After this thread he's on my ignore list along with that guy from hell.

Steelbom, I don't mind debating stuff with him.

Perhaps the Dual Core vs Single Core has anything to do with it?

Siri was free so they could test and refine the product. If apple didn't buy it then how would siri make money? The iP4 is the most popular smartphone ever, who would pay for the servers to run siri for free for say 60 million iP4 users.

If Siri stayed independent you would either pay for it or it would be ad supported. Everyone who makes the argument that "apple screwed the iP4 users" is either intellectually dishonest or not into seeing whats in front of their face.

Here's a quick video, unlisted in YouTube. :3

Sorry if crappy 480p.
How dare you make it in 480p! I jest

Thanks for the video. Good to know. I really want Apple to go even further with software optimisations, push it to the max.

To all those who want to know why Siri was pulled from the App Store here's some reasons

1) The version on the 4S has a year and a half worth of improvements and is integrated into the 4S giving it many more capabilities. The version on the App Store would be the most downloaded app after only a short while and it would be used to get a general idea of what Siri on the 4S is like, and that'll leave consumers unimpressed and disappointed. The fact of the matter, the two are significantly different and Apple doesn't want any connection between the two. (This is a big factor considering how Apple likes to keep everything incredibly super simple for the consumer.)

2) It costs them money. That app was originally submitted to the App Store by the company that developed Siri which was a few months later acquired by Apple. They would have to pay for the servers it uses, etc., and they're making nothing off keeping it up.

Some points:

3) They couldn't change the name of it because not only would that "new name for Siri" spread on the internet which would consequently result in everyone downloading it for a few days and having the same problems as #1, it would look as if Apple has simply put Siri on the 4S and renamed it on the App Store, calling the former a new feature.

4) You think they did it to encourage consumers buy the 4S? Yes but not for the reason you think. The version on the App Store was nothing but a gimmick, a little toy to play with, it was much slower and I guess less accurate considering the fact the version on the 4S has had a year and a half of improvement. So what are iPhone 3G/3GS/4 users losing? Nothing. The part that will encourage consumers to buy the iPhone 4S or prevent them from not buying it I should say, is what I said above, not being able to download and test Siri on the App Store which will leave them unimpressed.

720p is just too much for my internets, bro. About 200 mb for a 2-minute video.

It does not matter. Ad supported or paid would mean it is still available. Now the only way to get it is to buy their new phone.

A quick question. Do people actually USE Siri? I mean sure it's a good feature but I'd guess people would forget about it in a few weeks.

I use it when I can't be bothered setting up reminders for stuff. It's pretty easy to say "remind me to pick up my dry cleaning at 4.30 today". Other than that not heaps.

I've used it for setting alarms. I'll probably use it for reminders and calendar stuff at some point as well. I check the weather with it sometimes too and I think I'll start playing around with sending texts as well. (I'm not often in a handsfree environment.)

I'll like to use it for finding places too, but that isn't available internationally yet.

Keep this thread about Siri. Insults have no place in any respectable argument.
