Just pointing out a flaw, I honestly don't care about all these smartphones. Sometimes when I go to the pub with some mates we see youngsters sitting there with their smartphones next to eachother doing whatever, probably facebook (sure beat WoW as the biggest MMORPG) because it's cool and 'social'.

I'll admit, sometimes I could use one, to quickly check my emails or do a quick google. But I somehow managed to survive without

No, I'm not poor, I use a Sony Ericson K770 because it works and it's brown.
No, think deeper than that--if amd didn't take an effort to lock down to x2 and x3, it would devalue their quads and no one would buy one at competitive prices. Not all x2's and x3's are unlockable to quads.

Has AMD specifically stated that unlocking extra cores was not possible?

It doesn't matter.

Besides, show me an official statement from apple stating that siri cannot run on an iphone4. Apple never stated that siri cannot be run on an iphone4, only that they would only support siri on the 4s. Those are very different statements. It's not a lie--apple is only supporting siri on the 4s...

It would be very dumb of apple to even say that the iphone4 cannot run siri since siri was a 3rd party app for the iphone4 long before the 4s--long before apple purchased siri and integrated into their iOS.

Why the outrage? Android users should be used to this sort of thing. When you buy an Android phone you're lucky if you receive ANY updates.

Oh wait, this is Apple we're talking about.

You serious? That's so wrong. Even if an app doesn't support multi-threading, parts of it will by default (such as resource loading IIRC). Multi-threaded support has been in iOS since at least 3.0 (I don't know much about it before then but I'd expect it was still there) and since iOS 4.0 we've had Grand Central Dispatch support.

The app on the App Store isn't the same running on the iPhone 4S. It was originally put on the store by the company that developed Siri, and Apple left it on there (for free, as it was before) after they acquired it, and worked on it for about a year and a half or so.

Luckily this is not why I got a 4S, although it is convenient to have Siri read your text messages to you while you drive, and allow you to respond as well without having to type. Not that other phones couldn't manage this if they wanted.
The impressive thing isn't so much that you can do that, rather you can ask it what you want naturally with no specific commands required. You could say "Read me that", or "Read it", or "Read that text message to me", whatever's natural for you.

You do realise iOS supports multi-tasking and has done for a while? The dual-core has improved the speed of the device substantially, as it did with the iPad 2.

I don't really see why Apple not releasing a feature they spent a year and a half developing on an old phone is "withholding features". Why should they put it on the iPhone 4? It's like a year and a half old or something now, and they want to encourage growth of the 4S.

You'd not be complaining anywhere near as much if this was Samsung who developed a brilliant new software feature for the SGS III and then didn't update the SGS II and SGS so they also had it.

How do you not see it as withholding features? It was FIRST AVAILABLE on the 4 FOR FREE and is now exclusive to the 4S, even though both can run it. And of course they want to encourage growth of the 4S. But by taking something away that was available for free and slapping it into their new product?

And this is a thead about Apple. Until Samsung makes such a move and you see everyone's reactions in a Samsung thread, your last comment is completely irrelevant.
