And thats where I agree with you. Whats funny is I asked if its a good replacement, and you were the only one that said yes.
Thats all I needed to know. I could care less if its too much for what I have. Im going to be adding another 6970 or 6990 to it here shortly.
If we look at everything in the pc world then everything is too much...Its just like a car, you can get a subaru imprezza, or you can get a subaru imprezza wrx sti. the regular could be just as good for me, but why not secure my self with a little bit more power for when Im going to be needing it?

That's total system power consumption so you need to account for everything else idling.. and most important, that's Prime95 Small FFT benchmark.. that's not load, that's the CPU equivalent of Furmark, essentially a power bug.. there's nothing that comes close to that in normal use(gaming, rendering, encoding, browsing, multitasking, etc)
That is designed to reach the absolute limits of your CPU, is designed to test extreme coolers and most important, at that kind of TDP you would need either LN2 or DICE to keep the CPU from throttling, or some insane tower cooler like a TRUE Copper with a couple of 6K RPM fans on it in a cooled ambient.. which makes the bit-tech test you linked a joke considering what coolers they used to reach a TDP none of them can possibly dissipate that far of the Arctic Circle

You have very strong opinions considering how little you do understand... he's running two 470s, each of them being more demanding in power draw than your single card, and he's topping @ 700W..

nvm, go back to the newegg calculator and scratching your head about dimming case lights.

i would say no as i have not had any problems with my setup before this i had a gtx 460 not overclocked and i ran it for a couple years with no issues. its kinda like how intel says not to go over 1.4 vcore on your porcessor yet how many peolple on here do you see over 1.5 vcore? just cause its recomended dont mean its true.

i went through this same issue when i was upgrading from my old power supply. people said my old 850 was too much for mu current config and even though it was rated at 850 it probably was only 600-700w actual power. i was goin to go with taht exact same kingwin because i planned on WCing and going sli. the only reason i didnt go with the 1000w kingwin is i was able to trade some ram for another 850w psu taht was rated way better than my old. if i hadnt found that deal i would have gotten the 1000w. and i can bet that unoriginal sin would say it was overkill for mine as well.

with your plans of going crossfire and being on water and i can only assume you will probably want to add the cards on your loop as well, go for the 1000w so you will be prepared for the future. who knows how much power the new series of gpus will want.
