i7 2700k Benchmarking Thread - Page 15

On the box, (I'm not going to remove the cooler and look on the cpu), it says "Batch# L040B672". I think I bought it in June. Anyways, it doesn't OC worth a damn. I get much better OC's using either one of a pair of 2600K's I bought about 6 months apart. The 1st was bought as soon as they became available and the 2nd I bought the same time as the 2500K. (I just checked the Egg. The 2500K and the 2nd 2600K were bought June 7, 2011.)
Most of us have to play Russian Roulette when ordering cpu's and don't have the luxury of selecting a specific Batch#. I find it quite amazing that at even this late date cpu's can't be manufactured exactly the same. Any stray waft of air, variation in any application of heat to a die and probably thousands of other variables determine whether a cpu can be OC'd or not. Of course Intel has no reason to fix this problem since it makes people buy multiple cpu's to find one that operates as we want. It's too damned bad that we have no other choice at all other than Intel cpu's.
What does "Batch# L040B672" indicate?

Made in malaysia in week 40 of 2010, batch 672. If you look two posts back, I explained the code.

Wow, that's a very early one.

Dont say you paid £289 for it? I did a pre order there when it came up at £289 and then noticed aria was like £260 so i said to scan cancel.
lol no chance.. was £258 when i preordered and before it was dispatched it went down to £251 so Scan refunded the difference to me

Considering the 2600K was only about £10-£20 cheaper anywhere else at the time i made the order and im coming from a Q9550 i can justify going to this 2700K.. im really due for an upgrade anyway, just waiting on the board now
