i7 2700k Benchmarking Thread - Page 20

So, the only difference between 2700K and 2600K could be of this sort:

At some given motherboard power supply settings

40% of 2600K are stable at 5 GHz at 1.50V.
52% of 2700K are stable at 5 GHz at 1.50V.

That is all. There is no guarantee at all, that ALL 2700K will hit e.g. 4.8 at 1.35V. It does not work this way.

Sounds about right. It depends on quality of mobo, psu, and cooler as well. A stock air cooler probably won't handle 5GHz overclock, and ECS mobo will probably go up in flame before you get close to 5GHz.

Well, that's one awesome chip. I'm not so lucky. At 4.6 with vcore set to 1.340 and LLC enabled at ultra high, I can't get prime custom blend at 1792 to run for more than 2 minutes. No BSOD. Prime throws and error and gives me a window to close. Looks like I got a dud chip once again. I can run for hours at 4.5 with vcore set to 1.275. How in the heck do I have an OC wall at 4.6 on a "cherry-picked" 2700k

If I set vcore to auto and set the multiplier at 46, it sets vcore to 1.45. That sucks.

I'm not bitter am I?

Suddenly mine seems to be looking much better as well. I think someone earlier in the thread said something about their's improving after letting everything run for a week. I can't find the post though. Maybe that's what's going on here.

Just for kicks, I ran standard P95 blend at 4.6 GHz @ 1.34v and it kept going, so I tested 1344 and 1792 using 90 percent of my RAM and they both went past 15 minutes. I repeated 1344 with 1792 at 4.7 GHz @ 1.34 and they passed 15 minutes, too. Right now I'm an hour into standard blend and it's looking good so far. Very strange, I couldn't get 4.6 for two minutes, now I'm running 4.7 at the same voltage. I guess there's still hope, maybe a reboot fixed it. If it passes, I'll try lowering vcore a little.

Best I got is 103*48 or 4.95GHz at 1.44v The bottleneck seems to be the heat now as under full load, I get into 80C range easy with Venomous-X cooler and dual 90cfm fans, higher overclock requires higher vcore and if I go higher vcore (1.46+) I get BSoD with Prime95 in less than 10 seconds. The BSoD code I get is 0x00000101 which is common to overheating part.

The 2700K only seems useful if you're building a new system.
My 2500K is running at 4728.5MHz and 1.352V right now. Almost exactly the same as the two 2600K's I own. That's as high as I can get all three of them to run with Auto OC and air-cooling. Any change in the Auto OC settings in the BIOS makes it not post.
None of them will even post at 100.00 x 50. I would never have even bought into the SandyBridge platform if I knew I'd never see the 5GHz that was almost guaranteed when it came out.
I got my ASUS P6X58-D to post, once, at 5.5GHz, but sat here stupidly looking at the numbers and it crashed before I thought to get a validation.
I really like SandyBridge, but it definitely ain't everything I wanted and expected from it. I guess I'm looking forward to IvyBridge for a stable +5GHz 24x365.
A new 2700K won't help anything except to waste more money. I believe it was Excalibur PC that used to sell pre-binned cpu's, but no longer. Hell, for all I know my mobo is the problem even though all the test and monitoring programs I've tried say otherwise.

Its very odd because im now at 4.8 1.36 when at the start of the week I couldn't do 4.4 1.36
post #198 of 263
Im seeing very similar, i have played around with this for over a week. my first attempt i appeared to hit a brick wall at 4.7 (without going silly with the voltage).

last night i had around 1.5 hrs in prime before i had to sleep and she was sitting quite happily at 4.8 @ 1.36.

I will remove my supreme hf this weekend and get the number of the cpu. As i got this one as OEM it was only £10 more than a 2600k ..............

I had screenshots ready then my chip appeared to get better with age (burning in whatever)

Anyway i will put screens up when i actually hit the wall with this thing.

I hope mine continues to get better then. I had 1.5 hours in prime blend at 4.7 with vcore at 1.340 when I went to bed. Highest single core was about 70 degrees. When I checked this morning, it was hung in a Windows startup.
