I know for a fact that at least on Verizon you are grandfathered, and that even includes 4g.

I didn't get the upgrade... not worth it...
Reading into AT&T's LTE, for example in Chicago, the speeds were horrible~5Mbps connected to LTE 4G, and while in Cali they got much faster speeds...
Something about 700mhz vs 5-10mhz...

Also AT&T not only keeps and recharges the $35 upgrade fee, there is another $35 restocking fee on my current phone...

Plus the Skyrocket has a Snapdragon at 1.5ghz processor which scales a bit slower than my 1.2ghz exynos in a few benchmarks... shows that numbers aren't everything...
And I wouldn't want my phone any bigger... Thats what my ipad is for...

If I'm not mistaken, this is LTE advanced, which is faster than Verizon 4g. Sprint is picking this up, too. I think AT&T really set themselves up to come out on top with all of this. They focused on expansion of thier 3G coverage, this includes towers. It will take them a while, for sure, but I think they will be in a better position to expand LTE advanced to more of the country....the globe. I mean, the infrastructure is already set. Lord knows they have the budget. I'm just happy my iphone 4s is supposed to support the new network. WIN!
