Fianlly taking the plunge and building myself a rig. Should have the money by the 22nd of november (20th birthday).

NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case $125

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3R HE103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $100

ASUS VW246H Glossy Black 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor $200

SAPPHIRE 100312-3SR Radeon HD 6950 2gb $260 (20 dollar mail in rebate not included in price)

HT | OMEGA CLARO Plus+ 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card $175

PSU 850 watt $135

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 $50

BIOSTAR T5 XE CFX-SLI LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard $130

Intel Core i7-2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W $300

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136226 $80

Total : $1559 before rebates (there are some i didnt list)

getting a few accessories (sennheiser 595's with zalman throat mic , duckey 9008g2 mx brown keyboard) but that is going to be about it. Will primarily be used for gaming, photo scanning and editing, and hd video editing (stuff shot with my 60d in 1080p, weddings and short films). i also might dabble a bit in music production (using cubase and a midi controller). how is my setup? are there any things i can change to make it cheaper? any reccomendations are appreciated. i've never built a computer before. but i am very tech saavy.

Thanks and sorry for how unorganized this message is,

Bryce

Everything seems to check out just fine EXCEPT the motherboard you chose does not match the socket type of your processor. All you need to do now is learn how to put them together.

The 2600k is only about 20 bucks more. Why is it necessary for overclocking though? And im not quite sure if im going to overclock.

To other poster: I doubt it will be difficult for me. Im rather good with computers , i've just never gotten around to building one. I've done repairs and what not on my own though. I have plenty of friends who built their own rigs. I'll be fine in that respect.

To everyone: Is my cooling system going to be adequate? Is there anything else i should or need to get at all?

why Claro Plus for sound card ?
do you record music or something like this or you only use sound for music?

if not you can get better card and less expensive

Nice case! I recently built my first pc and also went with that sapphire 6950.. BUT if I were you I would go with the MSI twin frozr version. According to everyone and their mother it overclocks WAY better (I'm doing 870/1350 but I hear it's common for MSI owners to go 950/1400). I simply picked the sapphire because of more reviews but in retrospect I wish I went twin frozr

Crag: I am very into music and plan to play around with cubase and midi controllers a little bit. Nothing extremely serious though. It's mainly going to be for gaming and high quality audio listening. Should i not get it?

thebassoe: hmmm, ill have to check that out.

I would go for a better motherboard, 4+2 phase VRM is not very good for if you want to OC because a 2600k will suck up 140w easy if your running 4GHz+. that PSU is certainly enough, probably airing on the side of overkill, but it gives you room to run CF in the future. Even enough for a triple SLI GTX580 setup. Also in the interest of saving money you likely don't need that high end of a sound card. Otherwise your build looks solid.
