CF 6950s or trade for nVIDIA?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, really thought I'd be able to max out BF3 with my sig rig and the 6950 (stock) and it seems I can't get to 60 FPS unless it's on medium settings and I'm on a lowly 1680x1050 monitor.

I'll be getting either a U2410 or U2711 so, at the minimum, I'll be supporting 1920x1200 which will hurt my FPS all the more. My question is, should I CF with another 6950 or perhaps trade in for an nVIDIA card? From the looks of it, the drivers and support from nvidia look to be better.

My only concern is the apparent problems game are having utilizing crossfire setups? Thus, my reasoning for getting a single nvidia card. Any question, comments or suggests would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have 0 problems with xfire and my cards. You should OC that bad boy up to 880/1375. Also have you unlocked the shaders?

The only card you should go to is the 580 from where you are now.

If the price is right for a 2nd 6950 grab that. Don't waste your money on an nvidia card when both AMD/Nvidia are both going to be releasing stuff pretty soon. My xfire setup doesn't run everything on max either at 1920x1080p with 2 6970's stock clocks... so don't feel bad.. BF3 just taxes a system to death.. your system is no punk, but just keep that in mind when it comes to BF3 lol

Those are my 2 cents

Name the game that you cannot max with 2x 6970s... I am eager to find out.

Same here lol, Currently have 2 6970's w/ eyefinity playing BF3 on ultra. Avg is 40 FPS on outside maps.

Grab another 6950, my crossfire setup plays the game great w/ ultra settings (motion blur off) at 1920 x 1200.

Its too early to say who has the "better" drivers for BF3, the game is less than a week old. Don't waste a bunch of money based off preliminary driver performance.

I am 100% stock through and through.. atm... just seeing how the cards perform atm with ULTRA everything in BF3. 45-70 FPS depending on area... Once I OC both CPU and cards I know FPS will smooth out and jump up a bit..

Game is a little choppy with everything on ultra.. again at stock.. Plus I didn't do the complete good way to uninstall the drivers.. so that is next on my list before I OC..

just wanted to add everything IS turned to its max.. with those fps.. and game is choppy but still playable... just saying.. nothing is turned off

From what I'm hearing, the game is choppy in general.

I'll look into OC'ing it and no shader unlock yet. Wanted to see what I got out of stock (not much atm).

My CPU is OC'd to 4.2, for what it's worth.

Shader unlock is a waste of time, just overclock the normal way. If you can get a higher power cap using a flash, then go for it, the shaders give you 1-2% better performance and quite a bit higher power usage.
