960T Vs. FX4100 - Page 2

Did you have to take your voltage up 1.42 to get it stable @ 3.6 on the T960? Just curious I have the same chip running @ 3.6 at 1.264 with 6 cores stable (yes I know all chips are different just curious).

No that is just where I started. I didn't try to zero it in yet because I decided to do these tests.

Wrong. The FX 8100s, 6100s, and 4100s are all the exact same 8 Bulldozer core die. The 4 and 6 core versions are made by disabling slow or defective modules of the 8 core chip. Exactly the same as the 2 core 555 being the same chip as a 4 core 955 with 2 of the cores disabled and the 960 is a 6 core Thuban with 2 of the cores disabled.

That is simply incorrect sir. The other guy was incorrect as well, but two wrongs don't make a right.

The FX series doesn't come with disabled modules. Not sure where you got that idea.

That is the way AMD has been making chips for over a decade now. The chips are designed to let them utilize chips with defects or slow cores by disabling some of them and selling them as CPUs with less cores. Why do you think the 8100s, 6100s, and 4100s all have the same amount of level 3 cache? Because they are all the same chip, the lesser cored variants are in fact 8 core units with cores(modules) disabled.

I'd love some proof to back that claim up. I know that's how AMD did things with the previous generations, I had a x2 that unlocked.

Having the same amount of l3 cache doesn't prove anything but that they are all based off the same architecture.

I'd gladly put my foot in mouth if you can provide some proof outside of your own speculation.

He has no proof he is just speculating......
you should have overclocked both processors as far as they will go.
Because at 5ghz the 4100 would have been a diff story and the 960t at least at 4ghz would have been a different story.

also if the cpu-nb on the 960t was overclocked to 3ghz which is the norm, it would have closed the memory gap.
