Front audio jack does not detect headphones

Thread Starter
I have an ASUS P7H55-M motherboard, and for some reason the front audio jack no longer detects headphones I plug in. I know this is a problem with the PC and not my headphones as I have tried several pairs.

The odd thing is, it used to work fine, then one day I went to use it and this happened. I have tried installing drivers from the motherboard manufacturers website, using windows update, searching for updates in device manager and downloading realtek drivers. However, nothing seems to of worked.

This is how my playback devices looks:

As you can see, the headphone (front jack) port is listed, however whenever I plug something in, nothing seems to happen and it is not detected. This leads me to believe it is a hardware problem, however when I built my PC back in August '10, I don't recall plugging anything into the motherboard relating to front ports (other than a USB plug), so troubleshooting hardware wise would be hard without knowing what to look for.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If plugging in your headphones worked in the past, you must have correctly wired the front mic/sound headers so that should be fine. I had the exact same problem (and it looked just like your picture) about 2 months ago, but my issue was solved once I downloaded the newest Realtek sound drivers and reinstalled-restarted.

Got it, thanks for the suggestion. Works now, the HD_Audio wire was unplugged.
