Need help finding win7 product key

Hi, I am reformatting a computer for a customer and the sticker on the bottom with the product ket on it is deteriorated and I can not make out all the numbers/letters. I tried using a couple key finder programs and one on them just didnt work at all and the other one gave me a key that didnt match the sticker on the bottom (or at least didnt match the parts I could make out) so now I'm stumped.

Anyone know of a key finder program that works well?

Is it common for vendors to use a different key to activate their computers than the one on the sticker?

Just need to get this reformatted and activated.

Edit: It is a win7 64-bit home pre computer that I need to reformat.

Yeah, finding the keys from the registry without a key finder (which in most cases don't even work) is nearly impossible because the product key is encrypted.

Here's one thing I can personally recommend. Back when I used to use Everest to monitor various temperatures and such it did in fact tell you your product ID. I'd give downloading Everest a shot and see if it helps.

Hi Kirby, when a retailer installs an OS they always use a different product key to the one on the sticker. I believe this is because a retailer uses a Volume key so they can install the OS on lots of machines all with one key smile.gif

Yes I think you are correct. I was able to evetually guess at the missing characters on the sticker and I got it activated.

MS you need to make more durable stickers!
