Thinking about going tri-monitor, what monitor do i get?

Thread Starter
I currently have an Acer P235H 23" monitor and an Acer P215H 21.5" monitor.
I would like to go triple monitors for Eyefinity, But neither of the models I currently have are available anywhere anymore . The other issue i was wondering about was what size to get. Should i get another 21.5" or another 23", or get rid of one size and get two of the other?

Ive got a wanted thread up about finding another monitor on here:
http://www.overclock.net/wanted/1154...l#post15489731

So what are your thoughts?

you Definitely want three of the same size or more importantly the same resolution. Different resolution monitors put massive stress on the GPU and you end up with lower frame rates.

Wrong.

It just won't work in an eyefinity / surround monitor group unless all resolutions are identical.

If they aren't, it will scale down to the lowest common resolution

Both my current monitors are 1920x1080, i just wish i could find one like the ones i have, so i don't have mismatched monitors.........
they aren't for sale anymore and i can't find a single one on Ebay.........
By tri monitor I assume you mean for gaming? For desktop use mismatched monitors is fine, but if you want to game, you really need 3 of the same. Otherwise, even if they are the same size and resolution, you'll never in a thousand years get the colors to match.

Honestly, sell your two monitors, and buy 3 new ones. How about three of these? At 180 a piece, that's not too bad.

I'll definitely keep an eye on those . 2ms and LED backlit is pretty nice for that price. an Acer or samsung would be almost double that. does anyone know about the quality of ASUS screens?

Also while i do technically have enough money to buy 3 brand new monitors right now, I bought an $800 camera/lens a few weeks ago and i'd like to recover that for now. so for the time being that is out of the question budget-wise, which is why i'm looking for another monitor of the same model as one of the ones i have.

I don't suppose there is any way to find out another model that uses the same panel is there?

Asus screens are often just rebadged ODM hardware, much like Acer/Alienware etc. I've not heard anything particularly terrible about Asus monitors; I'm sure it'd be all over the 'net if there were lots of problems.

You definitely want to have three of the same screen if you can. It will save you from a lot of potential headaches. If you want to go the AMD EyeFinity route, you might be well served trying to find refurb/second-hand Dell U2311H's or similar that have a DisplayPort connection - that will save you potential adaptor headaches too. If you're going to try nVidia Surround, that isn't a requirement but you'll need two cards in SLI, so if you really love any games that hate SLI (Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the only one that springs immediately to mind right now) then they'll be essentially unplayable.

You can try the mix-'n'-match route, but if they use different sync polarities (which is something no manufacturer advertises) then nVidia Surround flat out won't work, and I don't think AMD EyeFinity will either, although I might be wrong on that one as AMD actually take pains to support EyeFinity as well as possible. The latest drivers for AMD EyeFinity (11.10 WHQL) apparently fix some issues with bezel correction and non-identical monitors, so that might be a ray of hope there.

If you stick to AMD, you'll need to get an active DisplayPort->DVI adaptor. The Dual-Link DVI ones are USB powered. There are some unpowered single-link ones, but I can't find a link at the minute.

I have been running 23"LG monitors for 5 months and They are suprisingly good for the cost. When I went Triple screen back then there were few choices of 3D 23" Gaming screens. There are more on the market now but the Alienware or LG screens are great for Gaming.

Check out my profile Pic to see them set-up. The Triple clamp desk bracket is a must at about £120.
