BF2 CD-KEY Invalid error ?

I have installed BF2 (again) after quite some time and I am having a few problems with it. the 1st time i installed it 2 days ago i had hours of problems trying to restore my original login. I got it going after a few hours of uninstall/reinstall. played it for several hours no problems, only to find it had somehow totally uninstalled itself (huh?) the next day.
I reinstalled again last night and it played fine for several hours, and it's been fine today for a few hours. then it was off for a while, came back to have another battle only to keep getting the above error.
how can this be. I have 2 genuine disks with genuine CD-KEYS (bought a second one when the first got scratched) and yet having these issues.

the CD-KEY is deffo genuine, the game is installed. it will even let me play single player. weird or wot ?

any ideas folks ?

this just gets worse. Now we have found that the (multiplayer) game will only play on my Son's user profile on my PC. we can play it on his profile by logging into either mine or his EA login.
On my own user profile we cannot play the (multiplayer) game from either of our EA logins. when we try it shows a message saying the CD-Key is invalid.
it seems even stranger because we installed the game onto the PC while logged into my user profile.

does anyone have a clue what might be going on here. ?
