You'll probably still need origin to launch it though. Much like how you need uplay to launch ubisoft games.

Finger's crossed though.

No it doesn't if you pre-ordered. We get the physical warfare pack and the 15$ first DLC/expantion pack for free.

Plus a lot of us got free games for pre-ordering. I got dead space 2 for free and I know some people may have gotten another game for free too. Mass Effect or something.

It simply recursively walks the directory.
Honestly guys until there's proof that it does something untoward, I don't really have an issue. It's your system though so I suppose each their own!

I've scanned the outgoing network flow from Origin with Wireshark, and it doesn't send any personal info. Everything I've seen is game related. People freak out over nothing.

Then why scan those files in the first place? There's no need for it to go through personal directories.

I might finally get to play BF3! but only as long as it circumvents Origin completely.

Yeah I don't know why, but everything it sends is installed games / game directories and data for cloud storage.

Steam can launch the browser fine. You don't need Origin for that.

You will only be able to purchase the game on steam. You will still need origin! All that will make it happen is you have to start steam, which will then start origin, and then start battlefield. There's no getting out of origin. Anyway I don't see why people are making such a big deal over it. It works fine. It's just EA's version of steam. There's no reason to boycott battlefield because of the a decision. And if you really hate it you could always just wait for call of duty. Or play black ops, modern warfare 3, or modern warfare 2. Sense all 3 are the same exact thing. Sorry but I just don't understand all the hate of origin.
