Did my motherboard just fail?

Thread Starter
I was using my sig rig and browsing the internet when the computer just shut off. I pressed the power switch, and the computer starts but there is no display and the CPU and DRAM error lights are both on.

About two months ago I was getting random shutdowns but there was no problem with booting the computer after. I then reformated because I got my SSD and then the shutdowns stopped. The problems started again last week when I changed things around with my computer when I did some cable management and added some sleeved extensions. Then I was getting a BSOD when the computer wakes from sleep mode and the random shutdowns have started again. This time the computer will not start again.

I have tried to boot the computer with only one ram stick and again with only one graphics card. I have also reset the cmos. I think that I might need to rma my motherboard but I don't know if this is a CPU problem or something else. The computer has been running on stock clocks since I started getting the problems a while ago.

This is where'd I start. What did you rearrange? You said that you added some extesions and whatnot, perhaps where you moved the cables to they're grounding somewhere.

I'd go back and recheck everything you did. Any exposed connectors that could be grounding on the case or worse, the motherboard.

So go through and thoroughly check and recheck what you changed. I guarantee the problem lies there somewhere. Worst case scenario, motherboard damage may have occurred.

I just tested with an old PSU and nothing changed. It is only a 350W so I just plugged it into the CPU and the motherboard. I took the graphics cards out so it should have shown the VGA light on.

I also removed all the sleeved extionsions and checked for exposed connectors but did not see anything wrong. The motherboard should not have shorted with the case as I have not moved it since it was first installed.

this is what happened to me yesterday when i was playing a game. computer just shut down and no post.

the cpu fan, video card fan, case fans all worked but stupid me thought it was a psu and swapped it but reproduced same results with old psu.

today i bought a new motherboard and i just finished putting my rig back together and online now. it was the motherboard indeed.

i did upgrade my gpu and cpu yesterday as well but i guess my mobo couldnt handle the upgrade and crapped it self

I can't boot from a Linux cd since I can't get into the bios. When the computer boots there is just the two error lights showing on the motherboard with no video.

I have just removed the motherboard from the case and used a friends 550W psu to test it and it made no difference. I have contacted asus support and I am looking to get a rma on the board. When I send the board to asus, do I need to have the motherboard accessories such as cables, manual, and cd included?
