GTX 560Ti Good Upgrade? - Page 2

Either a 560Ti or 6950, or try to keep saving & wait for the new 6/7 series cards,
good luck with your decision.

Edit: ?you might even be able to pick up a 570 or 6970?

Were I in the market for a new card right now, I would defiently be hunting for a cheap 570.

Another 460 is a good idea, regarding 1GB models working with yours it'll be fine. But it will only ever have the maximum VRAM available based on the lowest memory equipped model.

A 560TI is a very good card, if you can manage to get a used one all the better.

I paid about 230 euros for my 560 Ti (nonreference model with 2GB of VRAM) and it basically maxes everything I throw at it at 1080p (FSX is the notable exeception here) without much trouble.

The 560Ti has almost the same performance as the 470. The 470 runs much hotter, but if that doesn't bother you then upgrading doesn't make sense. Check out this comparison of 470 vs 560Ti. This comparison between the 470 and the 6950 shows the 6950 being slightly better than the 470, by more of a difference than the 560Ti over the 470. The 6970 is a fairly significantly better card than the 470.

My recommendation to you: If you really want to upgrade your GPu, look up threads on how to unlock 6950's into 6970's and pick up one of the ones with higher success rates. That way, you have a card better than a 560Ti anyway and then you have a good chance of having a truly worthwhile upgrade.

If you're not dead-set on a GPU upgrade, put the $250 into a WC loop if you want to tinker....or an SSD if you REALLY want a performance boost, a new CPU/cpu cooler, more/faster ram (don't go over 8GB@1600, no real need). Honestly, your GTX470 is an awesome GPU...and you can do a much better job of gaining a noticeable performance boost for $250.

Here's my non-GPU recommendation list from Newegg. If $250 is a STRICT limit, get the cheaper SSD OR, replace the SSD for a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB and a CM Hyper 212+. If the budget is just around $250, get the bigger one. It sways from $5 under to $10 over. However, you DO get $10 MIR....so back to $250 anyway .

Either wait for next-gen cards, or get another 460. And yes, 768mb and 1GB versions will SLI just fine. However, only 768mb will be used on the 1GB card.

whats an ssd? and i like the idea of new cpu/cooler, however idk how many upgrades my 500w psu can handle.

edit; btw, when i said 250$ that was the cap on the price of the gpu, the whole budget is about 350-400$ but i wanted to preorder/buy mw3 for 360.

My recommendations :
1. Don't get a second GTX 460. Your has only 760 Mb memory which could bottleneck you easily.
2. Don't get an SSD.
3. If I were you I would get an x4 945/955/960T, DDR3 memory and a 470/560 Ti used so this will fit your budget.
