GTX 560Ti Good Upgrade? - Page 3

SSD is Solid State Drive. It's like a hard drive, but made out of flash memory (like in a USB flash drive). It's WAY faster than HDD's. And if your budget is $340 ($400 - $60 for Bf3), you can get a VERY decent set of upgrades. Give me a few to work on that.

You cannot combine 1gb and 768mb 460's in sli, the 1gb is 256 bit, the 768mb is 192bit.

And you cannot combine cards with different memory sizes as per nvidia faq, sorry for being a buzzkill el oh el.

http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_faq.html#c19

If you want to see gaming performance increase, get another 460 1gb. SSD's will just load levels quicker.

Overclock your 460 to a 850-900 core and hold off till the 28 nm cards come out. 460 to 560 to me isnt worth the money with how the 460s clock. Especially with 28 nm chips only a few months away.

Here are two recommendations from me. One thing is this: I'm partial to ATX motherboards. More area means more slots means cheaper flexibility later on. The two photos are screenshots of Intel and AMD options. You'll stay well under budget. If you want to splurge, you can replace the proc's with an 1100T/2500k or get an SSD on top of either list. On the AMD list, the reason I recommend the 960T is that it's based off of an X6 Thuban. Most of them unlock to X6, and all of them are quality better silicon than other x4 chips. This means cooler OC'ing at lower voltages and lower power consumption.

Your PSU and case can handle it, you can sell your old mobo/ram/cpu combo and recoup a lot of the money (enough for a nice SSD), and you're going to be set up with much more current technology in the form of DDR3 and a more modern socket.

I really appreciate this post. I do think I'll keep the single 460 and take the AMD route, just because the intel cpus are much more expensive. Appreciate the help.

EDIT: God d-word, I forgot I only have 32b windows, looks like no 8gb for me :/

No, they will not sli. They have different memory bandwidth, and the 768 has fewer ROP's.

Adding another 460 is your best bet for the money until Kepler. Or maybe wait until black friday.

Is the 6950 a good upgrade? The clocks on stock are equal to my oc'd 460. And, about the phenom, is that a really big upgrade since my Athlon II X3 is unlocked to a phenom b40 @ 3.0 ghz? I just think that would be a waste of money.

Ok, thanks.

p.s. I like the profile pic.

Another edit; I believe I'll just pick up a 470. I like the idea because of the significant amount of extra processing cores, and the significant increase in STOCK speeds.
