Celeron e3400 by far.

Its a much newer architecture. The pentium d was basically two pentium 4's welded together, but the celeron e3400 is far more modern, a proper dual core design that will not only run significantly cooler, but use less power and have far more performance.

Trying to OC with those older architectures might actually DETER you away from OC'ing. tongue.gif If you start with Sandy Bridge, you'll see how easy and fun it can REALLY be. biggrin.gif

If you run into any problems, post them here and we'd be happy to help. grouphug.gif

Well I wouldn't recommend buying a new board or cpu JUST to OC. What I meant by my previous comment was to get what you plan on using long-term, then OC with that. This forum is full of experienced overclockers, and they'd be more than happy to help (I'm sure).

Between the two that you have though, I'd recommend OC'ing with the E3400, since it's newer tech and, I'd assume, more OC potential. thinking.gif

well i want to start off with something on a budget since it is my first time setting something up. the processor, case, and psu i got from a friend. he also builds his own rigs but doesnt OC but he said all i need is a board, some ram cards and maybe a gfx card. so i found these for a pretty decent price if you ask me. motherboard-http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0330331
ram cards-http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0317832
gfx card-http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0321386
which i dont mind spending for a first time set up. and if i get this right after a year or less ill buy something better.

Hmm... Okay well if you don't mind spending the money, then I'd say go for it. Are you going to be doing anything with your new computer other than OC'ing it?

I'm not sure that these components will give you what you want, are you sure you want to get just these parts to work with for now? I'd recommend getting more powerful computer parts for the games you want to play.
