Need Assistance Overclocking i7 920

Thread Starter
Greetings.

I've had this i7 920 for a while and some of you may remember me having various problems with it (and it ended up being my OC not being stable at 4.2 GHz).

I took it all the way back to stock and it's been running fine forever. However, I would like to OC it again though not quite as high (thinking 3.6-3.8 GHz with hyperthreading off).

If anybody has any ballpark numbers on their OC or if they can help me locate the tools to OC correctly I would be most grateful.

Many thanks,

Tomba

tools are in your bios xD but other than what you need to overclock i use Intel Burn Test for 5 laps at highest setting, and then when i reach the speed i want prime95 for at least 4 hours.

if your i7 920 is a C0 chip then youll be looking at around 1.35vcore and a VTT of +50-75mv for a stable 3.8ghz. temps need to be below 74*C loaded.

if your i7 is a D0 chip then 1.25vcore and a VTT of +50mv should be enough for a 3.8ghz overclock. again temps need to be below 74*C loaded.

Most appreciated, Kal.

Also mine luckily has D0 stepping.

Question though will Intelburntest/Prime 95 potentially ruin my chip if it gets too hot?

NEver had a huge problem with heat before, just curious.

If it gets too hot it will burn out. Although that doesn't happen until around 100C but having it go over 85C is like putting yourself into an oven. You won't like it like your CPU won't.
