Worth getting a new Motherboard?

Thread Starter
Hey guys. I am slowly updating my system (due to low funds) and I have a question. I need to pick up a new motherboard/ram and a new video card, but I don't know which I should get first? Right now I have a MSI 785GTM-E45 which is a very low end motherboard and DDR2 ram. Will I see a performance bump from this motherboard and some DDR3 ram or should I get a new video card and wait on the motherboard and some DDR3 ram? Thanks for the help.

As somebody with an extremely low end Motherboard, i will always suggest getting a higher end motherboard. However, if you do get that motherboard, realize that you will also have to upgrade to DDR3 ram regardless.

Thanks for the response, but do you think I would see much of a performance increase?

You wouldn't see any performance increase, the benefits would come with the overclocking capability of the board, the addition of DDR3 memory (which will show a performance increase, albeit not incredibly noticeable) and more importantly, stability.

I'm not sure about your current motherboard, but my cheapo motherboard has shown me nothing but problems. Whether it has to do with overclocking, or stability, it has always proven to be an issue.

I see, I would like to overclock, which I cannot do on my current board very well. I think I will grab a motherboard before a video card, thanks for the help.
