Data Server Build Help Needed

Hello everyone I got a message from a friend of a coworker and he is looking to build what I guess to be a data server. I do not know too much about servers in general past basic hardware specs and such. He states he also wants to host a website as well.

Here is the message and info he gave me:

Quote:
I need a system that can pull data from data warehouses 24/7, host a low frequency website but need to also maintain a massive data warehouse to store the information I am pulling. Here I will have genetic algorithms integrated within a neural network. The outcomes of each conditional probability will be stored, and the computer will eventually become smarter (a.i). Anyways, to refrain from telling you more of what you already know, where would you suggest I start? I am starting from scratch and would eventually like to have a 12 screen setup. Look forward to hearing your opinion. O, lastly, would you consider going to the cloud for holding my data or think an external would be suffice?

I need something as close to this as possible:

Processors: Intel® Xeon® E7-4800 and E7-2800 processors; 6/8/10 cores, up to 2.67 GHzUp to 2 processors per single-wide HX5;scalable to 4 processors

Number of processors: 1/2 (scalable to 4)

Cache: Up to 30 MB per processor (10 core)

Memory: 16 DDR-3 VLP DIMM slots, capacity up to 256 GB, per single-wide HX5 (scalable up to 640 GB max, at speedsup to 1067 MHz, via 40 DIMM slots, using a MAX5 expansion blade)

Expansion slots: 1 CIOv slot (standard PCIe daughtercard) and 1 CFFh slot (high-speed PCIedaughter card) for total of 8 ports of I/Oto each blade, including 4 ports of high-speed I/OScalable up to 16 ports of I/O in 4-socket, double-wide form factor

Disk bays (total/hot swap): 2 non-hot swap bays supporting solid-state storage per single-wide _______.

Max internal storage: I need up to 100 GB of solid state storage per single-wide ____ with 50 GB SSDs

Network interface: I need something similar to the broadcom 5709S onboard NIC with dual Gigabit Ethernet ports with TOE

Systems Management: This will need to be an integrated systems management processor.

OS: More than likely windows but I am open to alternatives.

Finally: It has to look sick as f@#%. I plan on hooking up to five 50 inch LED screens with wi-fi connections. This will be a huge project but I have the assets to cover expenses and would like to get started asap. Can you put something like this together?
Any help or ideas on hardware would really be appreciated.

If it is for a company use i would suggest to talk to a Dell or HP to get a system speced for his needs, don`t forget about the warranty

That is a serious build list. The only quad socket 1567 board I know of is a Supermicro. He seems to already know what he wants for the most part which should make it easier on you. The other option would be a dual socket board for a E7-2800 and then using Infiniband or similar in the future to scale to four CPUs. The quad socket 1567 boards aren't standard so unless he wants a rack (I consider that great looking but he might not) you would need a custom or modded case.

Thanks for the help AFAIK this is for home or personal use and I was thinking some sort of rack server set up. Since he wants so much and crazy specs on the CPU/RAM side a rack would be only logical route. Anyone else got some input on this?

He basically just copied this webpage: This

It would be pretty difficult to come up with a single box that could handle what a blade center can handle.

This should be a good start.

If he holds off until the beginning-ish of next year you will start seeing the new HP Gen8 servers rolling out utilizing the new E3, E5 and E7 processors. Mod the lid, add some lights, do some cable sleeving and that will be a sick unit.

Sounds kinda like he doesn't know what he is looking for.

Data Warehouse implies he is looking for a massive storage server. Not only are the storage requirements quite heavy, but it is also something you don't want on the same box as your public facing web server! He also wants to turn it into a workstation driving 5x monitors.

What he really needs is a back end data warehouse server, a public facing web server, and a personal workstation for driving those monitors and such. He could probably get away with a SAN/NAS backend and one or two beefy ESXi servers running the web and other servers (his personal workstation is quite separate).

Any ways, unless this is a school assignment, I wouldn't put much time into it, the requirements are made up, and the scenario is not based in reality at all.

After chatting with him more I found out he is into stock trading and wants a computer to do that and have a website running off of it. I am meeting up with him soon and will go over more details. I have figured out that really he isn't gonna need as much as he first thought. I nice desktop style tower set up will work fine even for running several monitors. Not sure if he plans to play any games or do any other 3D applications. If he is just planning to run day trading type apps I have good dieas for what will suit his needs gonna get some stuff drawn up for plans to show him some options.

Although DELL's desktops suck, their tower servers are good. You can browse the whole range here. Also check out their other stuff like racks etc.

Very true looking into a custom built desktop set up. I am meeting with the client tomorrow so I will go over some specs and see what he is really wanting to do.

Form the looks of it a rack type server should not be necessary. If he wants something that looks nice and can be multi use then a regular tower style rig will be good. If he is wanting all the stuff I posted in OP. I will let him know options for that since as stated in comment he would want to keep web site and other data projects separate.

Been looking around on newegg putting together some lists for him to check out. So far I am in the $1500 range for bare minim according to what he has stated so far. Will update this when I find out more and maybe post the build log as I am recording filming and taking photos of the process for my Youtube and personal records for future builds.
