Budget BF3 Build - Page 2

Look for a 6870 Open box from newegg. I run one for my rig and get 57-60FPS on high at 1920/1080. My 460GTX in my Lan rig gets 38-45FPS on same settings.

Keep in mind, you will need atleast 4gb of RAM, and get the best video card you can get. You can skimp on the processor a bit.... but get more RAM and the best GPU you can afford.

If you're looking for a cheap gpu for low settings I think a used 4870 or 4890 would be nice! Should even give playable results at medium settings.

With MC nearby I would get a AMD quad and mobo combo. Then get a CM hyper 212+ for the heatsink. Should be able to get mobo, gpu, cpu, cooler for sub $200 this way.

A AMD 6850/GTX 550 ti is more than enough for low-medium even high settings at 1680x1050. Other than that...it just depends how much you're willing to spend on CPU and Mobo, 4gb ddr3 is around 20-30 bucks..and yeah. Gotta give us SOME kind of budget and what its use will be beyond bf3, as if he's interested in upgrading later on or what?

Either way, you're looking at around 400

You definently want to have at least a Phenom II over 3.0GHz if you want to do heavy multiplayer, there are a few CPU intensive maps I've noticed but my CPU at 3.7 is pretty much 1.25/1 with my GPU. I wouldn't think about the Athlon II x4 unless your going to run the lowest settings possible.

CPU/Mobo
Now: X4 965 + mobo bundle from MC - $120-$140
Consider: ~$100 more for a 2500K and mobo combo from MC

HSF
Now: Hyper 212+, $26
Wait: Corsair A50, $5 AR

If you don't want to overclock then I'd just use the stock HSF because that's money that can be put towards a better GPU.

RAM
1333: 2x4GB = $20-$25
1600: 2x4GB = $35+

GPU
Whatever funds are left over
I was able to snag 2x GTX460's 1GB for $125 AR

PSU
Best budget PSU: Corsair CX430 430w, goes on sale regularly for $18 AR
I've used 2 of these in past budget builds and I've had no issues thus far.

It all depends on where you want to give and take.

Thanks, this is what I need.... I have an old Seasonic S12 so that will be fine.

Where did you get the GTX460 for so cheap? I can wait till Black Friday.
Once again...

MC was discontinuing their Palit Sonic GTX 460's for $99.99 with a $40 MIR so I bought two under different addresses and used a 10% off coupon on one of the cards

I wasn't even looking to update my graphics cards but I couldn't resist the deal.

Get the best gpu you can justify, then build around it. Cheap amd quads should be enough for the behind the scenes crunching for this game.

Sent from my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 using Tapatalk.

^That's not how I would go about it...you should have a balanced build. That's why I selected the cheapest quality parts in each category and then left the rest of the funds for the GPU. IMO my layout let's you know exactly what you'll be spending in the end, where if you were to build around the GPU you may end up spending more than anticipated.

Good lord!

I have $100 worth of EVGA credit.... How is the GTX 550 Ti for BF3? With the credit, I can get it for $15.
