In other words, a piece of poop. Going from my GTX480 to this is like going from a Bugatti Veyron to a Geo Metro without wheels.

Well atleast if you kill this card Xfx will send you a new Ati card to replace it.

I really don't think the disabled cores come into play here, if they did, everyone with cards with disabled cores (the entire 400-series, for example) would never get 99% usage, which is clearly not the case.

So, I'm confused ... is this a 48 shader card, or a 96 shader card we're dealing w/here? Cause I'm pretty sure if it's 96 shaders active then there's no shaders disabled on it. It's certainly not half the shaders on the chip disabled if it is, i.e. it's not a 192-shader chip.

So, I would suspect driver issues as well ... probably should try an older driver, maybe even a 19x-series, just to see if that solves it. Also check w/other monitoring programs (GPU-Z, AB, Precision) see if you get the same usage % showing up there as whatever you're now using to monitor.

Good idea, I'll unplug the fan and fold 24/7.

In all seriousness Brett, Mopar tried a bunch of different drivers to no avail, I'll never buy a XFX though, this is a sad move IMO.

Did anyone figure out why these Xfx cards wont use over 50% gpu usage? I did find a huge performance gain with mine overclocked to 650core 1625shader an 920mem. But still only 50% usage.

ok first off there are two 9600GSO's one based on G92 which is really an 8800GS with a 192bit bus and 384 or 768mb of DDR3 and then the G94 based 48SP 9600GSO with 128bit bus. Which one do you have. Because I owned an XFX 8800GS 96SP 384mb DDR3 and that thing was a beast i mean a literal beast never gave me an issue even played Crysis at medium/high lol
post #17 of 19
Yeah, uh the card's aren't the issue here. My brother's still using my old 8600GT in today's games (275.33).
Your cards are beasts in comparison, and in its time it was brilliant, and there's no reason it won't run newer games on low-medium at all.

Have you both made sure NVCP has the programs set to run in Performance Mode or w/e?

I'd suggest reinstalling the Drivers, but make sure to select Clean Installation, so it wipes your old Drivers out.

It's actually a G92 with 128bit. Thanks to Eric for the photo. Looks like XFX disabled half the shaders while the BIOS read 96 so when the card uses 1/2 the shaders, it says 49%?

Bumpity! tongue.gif

No solution here yet?
I also have this 9600GSO. It's different from most others.. it's a low power card with no PCIE 6-pin power connector kinda like those 9800GT's... G92 running 96 shaders, 128-bit memory bus, 512MB GDDR3.

Mine is clocked at 602 core, 1620 shader and 900 on the RAM. I'm also getting 49% GPU usage on Fold@Home and seeing only 2100ppd. This seems low since my GTS250 with 1728MHz shader gets right at 5000ppd. I see these other guys have tried different drivers and such so what else is there to do?
