It IS a worthwhile upgrade. Read the thread, he's getting close to full GPU usage and his frames sometimes go below 60 FPS in BF3. The 470, although a solid card, isn't all that fast by itself alone. And they do well in SLi that it's worth it given even his res. Look at the games listed in the OP.

It is worth it, especially if you can find a bargain priced 470. A bigger display will help you get the best out of that setup.

You mean something like, overclocked GTX 470 SLI?

I've got both games, and my single GTX560 plays them damn fine at the resolutions he's stating. The 470 and the 560 are relatively even when it comes to performance, with the exception that the 560 runs much cooler and with less power. I play multilayer as well, quite competitively, and at his resolution the fps that is obtained is nothing to be worried about.

Did you read this excellent reply by tylerand?

Whats your score? Are you lagging or something or cant you max things out? I am curious since one of my 460's broke before I could try BF3. The only reason I am not getting the 470's is that they aren't very practical for me, Loud and Hot in SLi. Can you give me some input as a 460 user to another playing BF3 and wanting to max everything out.

+ Reps./
Hey, running BF3 almost at ultra, I don't have AA enabled and my textures are set to high, 460's will not be able to run with texture's at ultra because it runs out of vRam and it start stuttering sometimes you know. But BF3 runs great for me overall no problems at all and I'm really enjoying the game!

EDIT: on topic, I would upgrade to sli 470's because these two cards will still last pretty long and you can upgrade your monitor later. But I'm not sure of it, you should check out benchmarks.

I run 2 470's in SLI on the same res. I pretty much max every game I own. Pretty awesome setup for under $220.00.

Definitely worth it if it's an 120hz monitor, if it's not then I'd still probably pick one up but it's a tougher call, I actually prefer 1680x1050 with 120hz monitor, doesn't take near as much muscle to push 100+fps

Playing "damn fine" is subjective. 40 FPS isn't damn fine, especially for competive. You want it to be at or over your refresh rate playing competitively, so you're wrong there. Obvious slowdowns aren't common while playing in a league. You're wrong about the 470, too. It's a stronger card than the 560 Ti once both are OC'ed. More ROP's/vRAM, more power per-shader and such. The 470 can even beat a 480 at 850-900 core. It has a low stock clock and a bunch to gain from an OC.

$220 for 2x 470's?
Where do I get mine?
If you plan on maxing out BF3, then absolutely! It's still a great card that's getting pretty cheap and is worth it as long as you can put up with the noise/heat/power.
