GTX470 SLI worth it @ 1680x1050? - Page 3

Dude you'd probably be happier with a bigger monitor.

The 400 series are great overclockers. For instance my 460 1gb overclocked as I have it is as fast as a 470 at stock, and I didn't even need to up the voltage.

i stared with one and went up to 3 470s on that res... total waste of money..... its not worth it but if you can grab one for 150 put it in and when you do get a new screen you can still max the games without adding another card...
you can max anything @ 1680x with a single card , why would you need SLI ?

You can't max Metro2033, crysis +mods, BF3, the list goes on.

I would know since I only have 1 470 overclocked to 850.
Sure, why not.

While playing games maxed out, you can limit your FPS to 60 and make the cards run at a lower percentage of utilization, which would mean less heat.

This also allows you to fold much faster

Man just sell your card if you want to upgrade; and upgrade to a gtx 560,570 or 580 or wait for keplar or gtx 600s.

This will be better and you will not have to mess with sli, heat etc

At 850 core the 560ti is a downgrade, the 570 @ 900 core is only about 5-6% faster than the 470 at 850 and would cost as much as adding two more 470s. The 850 cost more than tri sli, and really makes no sense at this time.

I never personally had any major issues with a single 470 at 1080p, there are a few games that warrant SLI, but they're few and far between. I went SLI for peace of mind, and to keep me over until either a kepler refresh, or maxwell. So far everything I've thrown at it from DA2 to BF3 it has been able to handle.

The only person here who can answer a "worth it" question is the OP. Run your games, max them out, if you feel a FPS increase over what you currently have would be worth while, do it. If not, save yourself some money or upgrade your cooling for more enjoyable gaming.
