BSOD's with new GTX 580

Thread Starter
My system until recently was rock solid stable running anything I threw at it.

I changed out the video card, and began getting random BSOD's during any gaming.

I swapped out an ATI HD 5770 for a MSI 580GTX Xtreme.

I swapped out the hard drive and started over fresh with all new drivers, etc.

Most of my dumps have come from ntoskrnl.exe and dxgmms1.sys

Most recent string was DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, but I've had:

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY

...as well. The ONLY thing I did was change the video card. Any ideas?

BSOD under gaming only.

Fresh HDD, not a wipe from a previously used one.

Drivers are the latest from nvidia, official.

I'm running a Corsair 750TX for PSU.

I've not touched the clocks on the card at all. Factory stock.

H50 w/Noctua NF-P12 Push/Pull
Asus P6X58D (0604)
G.Skill 12GB Tripple Channel Kit.

What bugs me is I NEVER had a single solitary issue with the 5770HD.

I simply swapped in the GTX580, installed a new HDD, reloaded everything, and BSOD's nearly every gaming session at random intervals.

Temps are within normal range for all.

This tends to happen when there are overlapping driver traces after a hardware switch. Sounds like you need to do the obvious, download and run driversweeper 3.2 after a safe mode boot and remove all traces of your AMD and NVIDIA drivers (windows uninstall leaves file/registry artifacts and doesn't completely remove old drivers). Reboot system (not safe mode this time), reinstall latest nvidia drivers. Do not install nvidia 3d vision or HD audio if you're not using it. When you install nvidia drivers be sure to do a custom/clean install, not express. If that fails reinstall windows. If that fails return card.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, would also indicate a resource conflict or driver issue somewhere

If you'll notice, I installed a COMPLETELY NEW HD when I installed the card. There were no traces of any previous drivers.

Hmm, did you do a custom install of the nvidia drivers. Did you install 3d vision and HD audio with it? Or did you do a custom/clean install. I would try running driver sweeper after a safe boot, and reinstalling an older or the same driver without those.....the error seems to indicate a resource conflict somewhere

That's totally worth a shot. Good idea. I did install those as well, I did express installation instead of custom installation.

If you have a friend with a nvidia card in thier system, then put your card into thiers. make sure there PSU can handle it.

I see you have an SSD. Did you reinstall windows? Installing a new HDD which is not your OS drive, dont fix problems.
Did you clone your old HDD to new one?
Too many missing variables.
