Basically. The maps have zero strategy in comparison to BF2. I thought linear kill funnels were a Bad Company thing.

You could probably communicate via morse code with the tactical sun flashlight from flag to flag they're so friggin close together.

Oh my, when people didn't compare the different systems as if it mattered.
I remember the 90's quite well actually. I remember when consoles were consistently more powerful than PCs for a very long time because dedicated video cards had not diverged from the mainboard and other components; they were still very integrated.

In the early and mid-1990s, CPU-assisted real-time 3D graphics were becoming increasingly common in computer and console games, which led to an increasing public demand for hardware-accelerated 3D graphics. Early examples of mass-marketed 3D graphics hardware can be found in fifth generation video game consoles such as PlayStation and Nintendo 64.

I remember when the Sega Dreamcast launched and it had a PowerVR GPU that was significantly more powerful than anything on PC.

In fact, the PC got the same dedicated GPU within the Dreamcast a year after it launched.

And guess what? The PS2 launched not long after and was quite literally a generation beyond the Dreamcast in terms of hardware.

Consoles lead the technologyscape long before "PCs" did - Coincidentally, it was consoles that introduced gaming to the masses as we know it in the early 70s. The first "Personal computers" couldn't even play games.

More on topic, this is why I vehemently defend consoles from irrational hatred. PC gamers seem to think they are more deserving as gamers because they spend more on hardware. Spending your rent money on hardware is a personal choice and is not required to play the latest games. Just don't castigate those that are frugal or those that are console gamers.

What's more pathetic is that some of the same guys who has defended Apple against irrational hatred is in this very thread making the same holistic characterizations of people based on their choice of hardware.

I guess being a computer engineering major has allowed me to appreciate consoles more than the self-coined "enthusiast" ever will.
Computer Engineers are the true enthusiast because we are quite literally on the inside looking out - because computing is far more than just what you see on screen and vehement PC gamers can't seem to wrap their minds around this.

This forum is become increasing unpleasant to be on.

It's just super angry people trying to win at bf3 or whatever game. games are getting ported from the console and coming out like garbage. and has an dump truck of DRM. Dead Island, Rage, and BF3 all had problems at release. Pretty damn annoying ones too. Console players just got to pop it in and play it. all 3 zillion of them.

tl;dr

I <3 BF3 with all my mm.
Ah, I finally get what you're talking about now!
I agree with most of what you say, but I disagree with the part that it's only PC titles. I'd say that gaming in general is seeing this decline in quality and cooperative multiplayer.

1. LOL don't kid yourself. 90% of the servers would kick/ban you if you even walked into uncap territory. Defeated the entire purpose of the asset destruction.

2. I do miss the bridges, but found that in BF2 it was annoying as most of the times the Engineers wouldn't bother repairing them.

3. I highly doubt the current comm-rose is the final version we'll be getting.

4. I find the flags to be perfectly spaced apart, where it doesn't take you a noticeably long amount of time on foot to cover the distance.

5. I'd say all but one map (Metro) has many alternate routes in every direction.

Still a great game. I would rather have seen BF3 to its full potential though. I suppose that'll explain the kill funnels and the debilitated chopper controls and other things. Still, if no one ever said anything I would never have noticed.

One thing I do absolutely abhor (and is essentially a 100% kill funnel) is Metro on conquest. That is absolutely the worst map designed I have played in a long time.

It's not out of pure hatred that you see all these aggressive posts from PC gamers. They have a passion for PC gaming, just as you do for consoles. But the main thing that fuels their aggression is the fact that game developers seem to be neglecting PC gamers, and its even more painful when developers that originally found success on PC move on exclusively to consoles.

PC gamers don't deserve anything more than consoles gamers... but they do deserve at least the same amount of respect, and there are countless games that have either had very little effort being developed for the PC OR in most cases not even appearing on it at all!

So I guess the main reason why it seems like irrational hatred is because most are just angry that developers are neglecting the PC platform, and that frustration is shown in an unpleasant way. And it's as if 'preaching' about all the perks of PC gaming out publicly will encourage more people to at least try the platform out instead of ignorantly dismissing it. Maybe then PC gaming would become more popular and maybe then developers will care for us again.
