i3-540 temps problems

First of all I don't know if I've made this thread in the right place.

I have this little HTPC I put together with spare parts. The case that I'm using is a little cheap thing: http://www.cable-trader.co.uk/items/...r-Case---Black

The cpu is in the title and I'm using a stock cooler heat sink with Arctic cooling MX-2 compound paste.

The motherboard is a Zotac H55-ITX : http://pden.zotac.com/index.php?page...product_id=211

See now, the cpu is around 50-53c on idle in bios I decided to downclock the cpu to 2GHz and it sits idle around 41c

The computer itself is only used for videos, music and internet. On tomshardware I didn't get much help but one person said it was fine at 50c and that my case might be the problem because the case doesn't have much air flow.

So it comes to my question: will the computer be fine at 50 odd degrees or should I leave it underclocked?

Thanks for your help

the i3 has a Tmax of 72.6C so while idle at 50C is high it is still safe.

Man, you guys are quick are replying! Ok, that's fair enough. But is there any reason why the temps are so high using the stock cooler? 50c is a bit high, no?
