How to get gtx 550 ti working on motherboard..? Please help me?

Hi guys, I am new here, I need your help please...
heres my ultimate disaster.
I went and bought Battlefield 3 for the pc, got home realised i needed windows vista or 7.... went and bought a new tower.... ACER M3970, i5 2300 6 gig ram, 1.5 tb HD etc.
I went and bought a graphics card so i can get the game going and the pc wont recognise that iv put it in the PCI express slot.
Iv been trying everything possible. disabling the drivers and onboard graphics in windows etc. windows 7 64 bit finds the drivers again. Nothing comes through the graphics card though.. its not in device manager-display adapters etc...in the bios there is no option to de activate the onboard graphics... i have really tried everything... is there a jumper maybe that activates the bios to display the onboard graphics?
I use to be an IT technician...but im totaly blocked as to what to do.... please help guys, this will be greatly appreciated.
Kirk.

Good are the chance that the power supply just can't handle a gtx 550.
Those pre build computer have very crappy power supply.

It seems that all i need to do is get the motherboard to recognise there is a card there.
Iv tried to install the nvidia drivers but all it says is.... "NVIDIA COULD NOT FIND ANY HARDWARE" and it then will not continue loading.

Did you make sure you plugged in the power connectors? I made that mistake the first time I installed a higher end graphics card, they require more power than the PCIe slot can safely deliver. There should be 2 6 pin connectors on the side of the card, you need to make sure your power supply has the appropriate connectors.

You must plug the 6 pin from the power supply to the graphic card and connect your display on 1 of the dvi ports.

Bad PCI-E slot?

Bad GPU?

Try exchanging the GPU and try again.
