AMD-->Intel Raid HELP

post #1 of 7
Thread Starter
I just got new parts today. Went from my current sig to a 2500k with a GeneZ board. But if I set up my raid on the intel board, do I have to reinstall windows? Or is there a way to preserve my old install without a wipe? If I set both disks to create new array, do I lose my old install?

Yes you will lose it most definitely. Copy all files to another drive and have a fresh install.
A system image might be viable but again you will need a lot of storage to store image and backup temporarily. And also dvds for the system image.

Were you using the motherboard chipset RAID on your AMD board? If so, you'll have to re-install as AMD and Intel boards use totally different softRAID implementations. I would recommend having your boot partition separate from the RAID array. If you are not using RAID 5 Windows' built in RAID works quite well.

Yeah was using and chipset. This sux. The reason I switched to intel was because I bricked my amd board flashing with mflash for a 960t for thuban. This is gonna be difficult. I do have an old 939 that might still work. Would that load the array for me to recovery my data?

Your best bet is to run it on the board you set it up. If you dont have that anymore then there's nothing else you can do but try and cross your fingers.

I think I'm gonna have to suck it up and do a fresh install. Time to find my disks.

Now something that I wanted to try,now that Im an intel board, was a matrix array. How would I set one of those up on this board with my two hdd?
