Driver for ubuntu installation - Page 2

well, from what i gather it works in kernel 2.6.38+ (the only resources i've been able to find are fedora users anyway, saying it works fine in fedora 15, which uses that kernel branch.)

ubuntu 10.04 uses the 2.6.32 kernel branch i believe, 11.04 uses the 2.6.38, and ubuntu 11.10 uses 3.0.0.

as for making 11.10 look like 10.04, that is gonna be hard to do, as now, even the "ubunut 2d" uses unity without the desktop effects...there is no more ubuntu-classic...you could always use one of the other desktops like gnome3, kde, xfce, etc if you don't like unity. kde is more windows like, xfce is more like the older gnome2.

if you want, i do have a thread up here some where, that explains how to to update to the kernel in 10.04 to the latest kernel that is found in 11.10 (would require you to download on another computer the files you need and transfer them over via usb flashdrive/other media.)

Install Ubuntu 11.10 kernel in 10.04/10.10

the original problem was for 10.10, but the instructions are the same, you don't need to install the lm-sensors package (unless you want too.)
