And expect your case temps to be at 45C+.

Unless you go water...which is pointless for a 450 for that price point.

I just took one of my 450's out and now w/ 2 my case stays at 38C. With only one it stays at 33C while folding.

And that's with 6 high speed YL in the case.

Oh and expect 8.5-9k ppd at 900/925Mhz overclock. Also 1.1v for 900 seems a lil high. I can go 930Mhz at 1.062v, of course each card is different.

I don't truly get how GPU Folding eats CPU threads/cores tho. I can BOINC on all 4 threads of my CPU and fold on both my GPU's without issues.

Because each card uses 3~5% of CPU cycles. So with more than 1 you are sacrificing more and more cycles that otherwise would be used for folding on the SMP.

Thanks for the pointers. I'll see if i can get a lower vcore on my OC. And since a BOINC WU does not take over 6 hours for most projects (and the ones i run do not take more than 2 hours), 5-10 minutes more ain't much, unlike SMP which can take more than that (my E6850 spent almost 26 hours per SMP WU).

I have never done SMP here tho. All is done at work, as my laptop would take too long, my HTPC's failmobo shuts down if it gets a lot of load, and i do BOINC more on my sig.

Single GPU, since it'll be in the same rig as a CPU which is (I would imagine) doing -bigadv/-hugeadv.

My whole system can be powered with a 500w PSU with full OC's and at full BOINC/F@H load without issues, so i'd say those two draw roughly 250-270w, but have not really tested that.

FahMon reports to me i get different PPD per WU on each card, for you to get an idea of the PPD to expect from a mediocre OC (i'm temp limited since my cards are single slot and heat a lot more) i'll list the benchmarks:

6800: Avg. Time / Frame : 3mn 15s - 5751.14 ppd
6801: Avg. Time / Frame : 3mn 24s - 5709.18 ppd
6802: Avg. Time / Frame : 4mn 15s - 4489.41 ppd
6803: Avg. Time / Frame : 4mn 15s - 4489.41 ppd
6804: Avg. Time / Frame : 4mn 15s - 4489.41 ppd

All of them average to 4985.71 ppd per card on an avg time/frame of roughly 3mn 40s or so.

A 570 might be lower, but still close in power draw, even OC'd, but i doubt it can make almost 20k ppd, which you could get with a higher OC on the 450's (and i was able to go to 960c/1920s/2050m @ 1.140v on one of my cards).

I found the stock power consumption of GTS 450 and a GTX 570 (i even found one that shows 450's in SLI and factory OC'd GTS 450's which OC's are higher than mines, but the power graphs take into account the whole test computer so numbers will be higher)
Something wrong with those numbers; I'm at 875Mhz, and getting ~8.6k PPD on most WUs. Might be your drivers...

Yes, that is expected when you have more than one card. I had 3 gts 450s at one point and the temps never bothered me. (antec 300)

as far as cpu utilization. smp-7

PPW for the 2600k is around 120-160k/3WU running -bigadv on 7 threads with the last thread being used for gpu folding on the 5750 and background stuff, light usage.

So with 2 GTS 450s with a decent OC I'm looking at roughly 16-20kPPD and lets just say about 350watts and with the GTX 570 getting around 15-18kPPD at around 220watts; I'm assuming that was stock*. (Mind you I've never OC'd a gfx card).

The 570 with roughly a 15% OC draws around 370watts. What sort of PPD would I be looking at there?

I'm leaning toward the 570 for the simplicity of not having to OC it and getting comparable PPD at a lower wattage.

------
Idk where this fits in but, I'm getting a new cooler as well, H100 vs H80, should get me 5-10degrees cooler, folding I stay around 68c; my chip can do 5GHz at 1.42-1.44vcore, but temps reach around 75-78c. GPU folding for longer periods of the day at the higher clock should keep the smp at around the same PPW if not higher, I'm guessing.

(Upgrading from the H80 more bcuz I hit a wall on my q9400 at 3.12GHz@1.35vcore on the stock intel cooler, so the H80 is going on there)

That 350W they quote is for the system not just the cards by themselves. For the cards themselves it should be around ~240 watts overclocked (guess-ta-mate). Stock the cards rated to pull 106W.

Looking at the 570 the link below shows that, 15k-18K is with the card overclocked.

Benched in the same test system 450/570 only diff was drivers.

Ah, okay. But I am seeing 14.8k for stock(1464/66) 15% OC(around 1700MHz) is looking at 18k and around 10k for 450@1764, so yea around 16-18k for 2.

Ok. On further reading, the GTS 450 I'm looking at is factory overclocked to 882/3800/1764/. So think I'm just gonna go with the two 450s.

Thanks all, +rep (they'll know)
Edit: I did decide to go with the 570 after all, and have it folding stable @ 904/1809/1987(core/shader/memory) (bout a 23% OC over reference) at 1.004v(1050mV) in Afterburner. Pulling around 18,600ppd on P7621.
