[HardOCP] Seasonic Platinum-1000W Review - Page 2

Kinda wish I could have waited a couple of weeks before I got a psu for my 2 580s.

But I couldn't.

The HCP-1200 is still the king. It has the protection of multi-rail OCP, can peak beyond and built better. It has a silent (about 30dB) fan despite being 80mm. Further, 80mm fans create a vacuum chamber inside of the PSU to push hot air out the back. Unlike overheaded fans that just blow it on top of the topology.

HCP-1200 > Platinum 1000. In fact, cost to performance, Topower PowerBird 900 > Platinum 1000. It's overpriced for having perfect performance (yep) and being Platinum rated. I'd suggest a Gold unit that's much cheaper and can perform similar.

Looks like a decent power supply to keep in mind for future builds. However, I stopped caring about efficiency ratings after doing some math so full on reviews like those are going to be real helpful when I need a new power supply. Otherwise my Corsair HX1000 continues to get the job done...for now.

The HCP-1200 trumps the Planinum. Re-read my post. It offers similar performance while being based on a dual-PCB, higher quality Delta. What are you smoking? You're comparing a Delta to a SeaSonic. It has 4 Rubycon caps, with 2 just for to add further capacitance. This is the Planinum 1000.

And this one's the HCP-1200.

Unless you're a clueless one that prefers the louder, actually worse 120mm sleeve-bearing of Platinum 1000 (HCP has a quiet fan despite being 80mm), and single rail along with Platinum over Gold (which doesn't mean jack), the HCP is clearly superior to the Platinum.

Delta build quality is better, yes, but at the end of 2001 a psu not fully modular is unacceptable for me, period.
Regulation and ripple are excellent on both psu.

In real world usage both psu should be comfortably quiet (nonsense to use 800W+ on a 1000w psu), so the fan is the least relevant factor.

You can have a system pulling that much power and still want it to be silent. I don't care for it, but some people do. With cards like Asus DC, it's possible to have a setup pulling that much power with the PSU fan making more noise (kW units aren't as silent as 850W). Also, you seem to notice how much noise 80mm fans used to make. Most 80mm's on older units (PCP&C Turbo-Cool) were ridiciliously loud, like a hair dryer. More so than an Ultra Kaze. The fan is relavant to people.

And you're knocking off the unit entirely for lacking full modularity. So what? It offers less resistance that way, and full modularity is pointless anyway. You'll end up using a few to run your machine. The HCP is stronger, built way better and is multi-rail. It's an obvious better unit. That's the period.

It's pointless to argue with you since you are totally biased.
The HCP-1200 fan isnt that quiet as you think anyway:

PS: i have had loud and not so loud 80mm-fanned psus

Biased? lol you have no idea what you're looking at. Have you even checked what you posted?

"noise was quite acceptable despite the 80MM fan"

Do you just make up this stuff? Seriously, inform yourself before you throw up stupid statements.

The 120mm San Ace 9S1212F404 fan has ball-bearings not sleeve-bearing.
