I had a ducky Shine pre-ordered but decided to cancel and find something else. Just decided a switch with a tactile bump might not be good for playing games.

So now im looking at (if i do get a mech. keyboard) maybe black or red switches.

I am worried though with each of their actuation issues.

Black- worried they will be too heavy and cause finger fatigue and not be good to type on.

Red - worried they will be too light and cause lots of typos

I have a cheapo RD keyboard that is ok but i dont like how the actuation point is when the key is bottomed out.

Between black and red what would be better and why?

if you have experience with blacks did you ever notice finger fatigue? how was it to type on?

Same thing with reds, how was your experience with reds.

when it comes down to my choice I am either going to get a corsair K90 (reds/RD hybrid) or a Mionix zibal 60 (blacks)

This is all personal preference my friend. I find red switches to be too soft and prefer blacks - you may find that you like reds if you are worried about finger fatigue. Trying one out is the only way you'll really know.

I'm very interested in people's thoughts on this too. I understand it's personal preference, but there simply aren't many options out there that you can actually try before you buy.

My fingers get fatigued with blacks, I sold my DK-1087 because of this. My favorite switch is red, and second is brown. However, it is personal preference, so your experience may differ.

I like my blacks. I am heavy handed though so I do not experience fatigue at all.

As said it's all preference...different strokes for different folks (and the only way to really know is to try them).

Personally I love using browns as an all-around switch - and I actually use the tactile bump in games too.

but seriously: they're not that bad, I'd say only slightly heavier than average domes, you get used to them and don't even notice after a while.

It really does come down to preference. Given the lack of availability of many switches to try out locally, you might just have to take the plunge in order to try it for yourself. It's obviously quite a bit of money to drop on something you've never tried, but if you research enough and read through people's experience with switches, you can get an idea what you would probably like.

Personally, I researched quite a bit and came to the conclusion that browns would be the safest all around switch to try. I didn't want to try blue because I was afraid the click would be too loud and I didn't want to try black because I didn't like the idea of pressing a heavy spring.

I still recommend people trying browns as a first board because it is indeed middle-of-the-road. It also lets you determine whether or not you like light switches, which will help you narrow any future switch decisions.

As for tactility in gaming, I find that you can't really feel the tactility if you play fast games (such as FPS or spamming in RTS). Once you get absorbed into a game, I don't think about or feel the tactile point anymore.

I own a red board and brown board, and they feel about the same in gaming. Just keep in mind that no board will improve your performance in a game; that comes with practice, not necessarily spending more money on "gaming" hardware.

Good luck!

so blacks are slightly harder to press than a rubber dome? does it help at all that the actuation point is half way down? the issue I have with rubber dome is the fact in order for it to actuate you need to press it down all the way in order for it to actuate. So when it actuates after 2mm does that help take care of some of the strain when depressing the key?

This is almost completely subjective. I've only had experience with blacks, and after about 10 minutes of typing, I didn't feel like I wanted to type anymore because my fingers hated it. I do not have experience with reds, but if they're anything like browns, they'll be light and easy to type on. Or maybe I'm not man enough and don't like heavy switches

Also, I'm not so sure that the price premium for the aluminum construction is worth the fact that it's not a full MX Red board.

Also I guess this is personal curiosity, but why do you think a tactile bump is bad for gaming?

The thing about a lack of tactile bump is that you don't have a guide post as to when to stop, other than the text appearing, but by that time, you probably have already bottomed out, or at least, that's how I reason it out.
