New SSD not recognized.

Thread Starter
I don't have much time so I'll get to the point: I plugged in my new ssd (Corsair Force GT 120gb) and I just want to use it to store games. When I boot into windows it is not recognized. I have not formatted the drive, or done anything other than plug it in and boot. The device is recognized in the BIOS.

Question; How do I make it so that Windows recognizes it and can format it?

Go to your start menu and in the search bar type "Disk Management"

Should show the drive there and give you the option to format it.

Go to ''My computer'' right click and go to ''Manage'' this will open the disk configuration menu. Scroll down your Disk list and you will see your 120gb SSD ( Prob around 117gb ) Right click on the drive and click on ''New partition/Create Volume'' and follow the on screen instructions. Bam..sorted

Only the boot drive shows up.

Was it recognized in Bios? If not, make sure it's plugged in correctly.

Are you sure? If you're seeing it in the BIOS it should be there.

Are you in Disk Management? I'm at work on XP right now, however it looks very similar, you should see it in this program, then you can right-click and quick format it (see attachment):

The device was finally recognized and I did a simple NTFS format. Thank you for your help.

If it pops in and out of being recognized, seek a firmware update for the drive. It may be needed.
