Re: Skyrim and current hardware

Hello folks,

I have a 23" monitor, play at 1920 x 1080 and run with an i7-860 / crossfired 5770's.

The computer is ~ 1.5 years old now, has been mostly problem free regarding crossfire and in many cases quite pleased with the performance of games.

Now that Skyrim is upon us, I'm under the impression [based upon various articles/reviews I've read] that my 2 5770's are more or less equal to / somewhat less than / greater than 1 5870, depending on the game. So, there's a chance I'll be ok with 'High' settings.

If I wish to go for 'Ultra' settings, I understand I'll need something beefier such as a 6950 or 560 etc. I'm not married to either Ati or Nvidia as I've used both, but do appreciate value for dollar spent.
Having said that and if I do go the upgrade route with a new card, is my cpu going to bottleneck the system?
I haven't the foggiest idea about overclocking / replacing new heatsink etc, so everything I have is @ stock.

Alternatively I could get another 4 gb of ram, but not sure if having 8gb would amount to any benefit for playing a video game. The only thing I may swap back and forth to during game play would be firefox for tips on the game.

Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any tips / comments / suggestions

Marc

0_o 2 HD5770's should handle Skyrim easy. its not going to be that demanding. if you find its not going to be enough then get a HD6870 and that will easily max out Skyrim. but if two HD5770's wont run it at max settings on 1080p then ill be impressed

Thanks guys, making my pocket book feel happier I think I may have some good life out of these cards yet. BadComany 2 and Dead Island look like a dream, smooth. I'll see what they're like with Skyrim.

Right on, any tips on where to purchase Skyrim? Steam has it for $60, just seeing if anyone has discovered a better deal.

You could test your system performance on Fallout New Vegas,

Because i heard Skyrim will be lead developed for Consoles, and ported to pc...

Metro 2033 also came out on xbox 360

But there has been little indication that Skyrim will be a horribly demanding PC title
