Made The Switch!

Going from build I was doing in sig rig ( giving it to gf ) and starting over with a fresh amd TWKR am3 cpu. However my TWKR is ES. Dunno if all of them are or not.

I was hoping the amd community will point me in the right direction for some boards to look at, I am a bit confused on the am3 ordeal, will am3 work in am3+ boards?

I'd like to stay with asrock or something similar if possible. Also ram advice ( voltages etc ) would be great.

I will be running a 5770 sapphire juniper XT and a 9600GSO for physx with aftermarket cooler on it as I heard the fan was overly loud.

I'll be running the dangerden and putting hers in an haf 932, also keeping my power supply as she'll already have a corsair 850 sitting in the 932.

So hopefully i'll get a warm welcome to the AMD community, will update sig a little later tonight. Glad to be apart from the AMD area!

A TWKR chip Gimme Gimme Gimme!!!!

They don't clock well on air due to being high leakage chips but under DICE/LN2 they can do some nice things. It will work in a AM3+ board. I'm running a AM3 chip in a AM3+ board at the moment with no issue.

With the ram just stick to the manufacturers settings on timings and volts because the TWKR chips will have an unlocked multi. If you want to know more about overclocking the ram then check out some of the guides for good info.

Welcome to AMD

Thankies would an h100 cooling unit work starting off? I don't have experience in wc'ing just yet so a premade unit of that type would be ideal for me.

later on I plan to go full water though.

Welcome to AMD
ES twkr, i'm assuming it's rarer than the ones they actually sent out as it comes up different on cpu-z.

screen from previous owner on air:
\\

and a standard twkr that someone else used:

note that mine does not have a L3 cache listed, if I recall the previous owner said this about it: "I've did some research and so far I've come to understand its a Athlon ii Propus as it doesn't have a L3 cache, unless its just disabled."

now, that info seems to be correct unless the L3 is just disabled but i'd have no idea how to see this myself.

but yep, that's what I got Thanks again to you guys for the welcome to AMD
