So guys and girls I just got myself a R.A.T 5 and yes, It's pretty freakin' sweet.

It glides like a .... glider
It pwns like a ....poney
but I just cant get used to it :/

Before this i had a bog standard Microsoft Optical Intellimouse thing and would do some serious damage on FPS, now however, I'm a quivering mess.

These new DPI settings have thrown me off and now my sensitivity is either through the roof or slugging along.

Looks cool though...

That's usually what happens when going from low DPI to a mouse with many settings. It'll take a short while for you to get used to using it on higher DPI than you are used to, but once you do you'll be glad you got it.

I went from a POS HP optical to my DA at 3500DPI and at first I had horrible control and was very twitchy but now that I've gotten used to it I find myself frustrated at the 800DPI mice at work because they take too long to move across the screen.

Find how much DPI your previous mouse had (400DPI if its an oldy but goody intellimouse) and what your in game sensitivity was set to and use THIS calculator to allow you to set your sensitivity to the same level with your new mouse with a higher DPI.

That or the phillips twin eye sensor in the RAT5 is just bad which could be a possibility.

Have you tried just setting your DPI to 400? You're talking about IMO 1.1 correct?

Just set your DPI to 400, it's going to still feel slightly different, but should be much easier to adjust to as long as the mouse feels comfortable.

One issue though is lifting the mice, as you'll want to avoid that as much as possible on that sensor.

why do i not want to lift it? I knows it a bad habit to keep while gaming, but is it really that bad?

The MS mouse is a better mouse for FPS's. That mouse you just bought is hot garbage for FPS games (I'd take it back if I were you, say it doesn't seem to work properly and malfunctions a lot... because it doesn't work properly and it does malfunction a lot).

Lifting is required if you want decent aim. That sensor in your mouse malfunctions when you lift off though. It's partly why you feel like a twitchy mess. It's a piece of crap I'm afraid my friend.

but it's so comfortable and pretty I'll give it a week, if I still can't get used to it I'll ask for my money back

Not a bad habit at all, I left my mice up all the time as well to reposition. Its the z-axis issue that's resulted because of the Philips Twin Eye sensor which is the issue.
