About nvidia's releases !

Thread Starter
Ok, so i've heard that when kepler will be available nvidia will release the low-end cards, and then the high-end cards like 670 or 680.

Is that true ?

I know when they released the Fermi they started with the 480 and 470, same as 580 and 570.

Yea they usually start at the top, but this might be an explanation:

First you have the early adaptors, they buy hardware as soon as it comes out. Usually the higher-end stuff. Then come the enthusiast and then comes the mainstream.

However, if you might be having some yield problems or lacking performance due to unoptimized production processes then your High-end cards may have some bugs/ hiccups and scare away the early adaptos/enthusiasts (who buy the expensive stuff, albeit in smaller amounts but still...) hurting the brand and sales later on.

Flagship cards have to be good to sell the lower-/ mid-end cards.

Loosely based on some basic economics and purely hypothetical

Re-read your post: I totally gave the wrong answer xD
Yes, I've read that they'll start at the bottom this time (can't remember if it was official)

Well, I heard the 600 Series is actually a refresh of the 500 Series. And not really Kepler

Pretty sure this has been confirmed.

Kepler will be 700s maybe? I dunno but not 600.

So if they don't make Kepler, why they don't put a release date and some specs ? What is the problem ? Or they keep the secret to us, not telling us is Kepler, and on march, Boom, they tell us is a Fermi 2.0 ?

even if its a die shrink.. it will still allow nvidia to lower the tdp on their 580's ... and allow higher clockspeed easily... wich is more performance

adding more cuda cores would negate the lower fab process effect .. and keep them with the one big die methodology of business

if they dont share final specs it might be due to several reasons ...

one being that they are having trouble with the few engineering samples they just got from tsmc ... and they are rethinking their approach ... or are trying to go bigger ...

or they could even keep quiet and blow our mind closer to the release date whatever it might be
