Look for a NAD 316BEE or 326BEE amplifier, Or maybe a Marantz PM5004, or probably any Rotel integrated amp you can find new or used, and pick up a pair of speakers with the remainder of the cash. Speaker wise...
Maybe something like this:
Basically, since you intend to "jam" I assume you'd like to be able to play it loud while maintaining a clean sound. The trick to this is A: one of those "nice" amps like I am suggesting, combined with B: Big ass speakers, or lots of little ones, or some sort of happy medium, either way, as many square feet of woofer space as possible while still being built reasonably well.
Lot of people will probably balk at me for suggesting spending so much on a nice integrated amp while suggesting pretty ordinary speakers. To be honest, a pair of cerwin vegas will sound better on a quality amp, than a pair of B&Ws will on a crap amp, so yes, I would suggest putting around
half of the budget towards the good amp, and the other half towards speakers. If you are willing to hunt through the used market, feel free to drop in your finds here for analysis. It's very likely to get higher end stuff all around if you take your time shopping in used markets.Edited by mdocod - 11/7/11 at 7:32pm
