Sata wiring back to front.

Thread Starter
My case (lian-li pc-a04) has an esata socket on the top which plugs into a motherboard sata port via an internal cable.

I bought a esata to sata cable but when i plug this into the pc case i end up with the wireing becoming back to front. for example if i hold both sata ends (the esata ends are just a link from the inside case cable to the outside case cable) in the same orientation the pinouts become...

1234567 > sata male going into motherboard
7654321 > sata male plugging into external device

Which means none of the sata devices (bare harddrive/bare dvd drive and so on) actually work :/

Whats my problem here ive got very confused lol. And how/where do i find a esata to sata cable that has reverse pinout to my current one.

I hope i made some sense and look forward to being laughed at and hopefully educated.

Wait, so are you using the Esata to sata cable to plug into a sata device outside of your case, and then running that cable to the front I/O pane?

My guess is you bought the wrong kind of cable. Do you have a link to what you bought?

It was just a 1m esata to sata cable. Yes it goes motherboard-sata to esata cable-esata to sata cable-external sata device (bare drive).

Its basically just one long sata cable but joined in the middle via a esata port/plug.

Just been jotting this all down and the external esata to sata cable i have is wired correctly after some probing and checking online sata/esata pinouts.

So the internal case cable must be wired back to front. But i cant see how back to front wireing would happen in a manufacturing environment.

anyway going to double check by probing just the internal cable at both ends tomorrow then rma i suppose.
