Your half way there bud...SLI it. The most practical move IMO. Performance is a tad better. Scaling has improved with Nvidia's past few drivers since early summer.

Both options will give you great gaming. Nothing wrong with either. Slaughtering FPS.

So unless your just wanting to switch brands, I always advise once committed to a good card you like, best performance upgrade path is buy a second.

If your were thinking to sell the one for next gen card combo, that would be more understandable. Your moving to 6970's is a side grade at best.

Not worth the hasle of selling the 580 and buying another two 6970's. You also will be losing some performance. Stick with the 580's.
