How to forward port 80

Thread Starter
To start, I installed a Night OWl security system at my house. Works great and I can easily view it locally on Internet Explorer from any machine on this network.

The instructions, http://nightowlsp.com/Manuals/Tiger4500%20Manual%201-21-10%20PDF.pdf, clearly state to forward port 80 and port 9000. Both of which are open when I have done checks. I have comcast and I also called and they confirmed these are not blocked.

I have forwarded the ports in my router to the IP of the DVR which is 10.0.0.5 as instructed.

Now, when on Internet Explorer and trying to go to http://xx.xxx.xx.xx:80 as it says it defaults me to http://xx.xxx.xx.xx/ without the ":80" and of course does not work.

Any tips or suggestions for me at this point? I would appreciate any advice as I am pretty much stuck.

Thanks!

When setup port forwarding in the router did you have both TCP & UDP protocols selected. Also did you assign the DVR a static ip,and do the modifications to IE?

Yes sir!

I gave the DVR a 10.0.0.5 static IP

I made sure both TCP/UDP was selected when forwarding ports 80 and 9000 for the IP 10.0.0.5

I did modify IE for the activeX. It works great on my local connection with any computers. Just can't get http://xx.xxx.xx.xx:80 to load at all. The thing that confuses me is that when I type it in IE and press Enter it tries to go to http://xx.xxx.xx.xx/, is that normal? Or is that IE messing up and not including the port?

Can't say that I've ever had that happen to me,that's weird.I'm sure you probably already did this. But did you make two different exceptions in the router, one for port 80 and one for 9000? Or setup DDNS account? Is IE version 7 or better, what about trying a different browser or port,I know they want IE but its worth a shot.

I did try in Firefox, but nothing at all works since it needs activex controls of course.

I setup two seperate forwards for 80 and one for 9000.

I actually have no setup a DDNS account. I think I will go ahead and do that to see if I can figure out anything new.

Thanks again for your help!

Still no luck on this. Seems so easy to do. I've had no problems with this back in the day some years ago for counter-strike.

I'm blaming comcast at this point, even though they claim port 80 is open and port tests show it is. Weird
