for instance, both of my locked cores are stable as a tri, but fail as a quad, i haven't messed with voltages or anything, but i read that smetimes it takes a good bit of tweaking.

you can use ACC to to underclock one of the cores that is an ill performer, sometimes that helps..
maybe try it as a x5 with either core, and find out which one is the bad one..
yeah I just tried that with both cores still no luck

Unlocked cpu's like CPU-NB and CPU voltages. Increase them with 5% (example from 1.375v to 1.425v) and (CPU-NB from 1.2v to 1.25v) then test them on Prime95 with Small FFTs 3Hours. If it's stable report back and drop your voltages slowly, till you got minimum stable one.

Hey bud whats up. Yeah I'm not really upset about it you know, I'm still excited to have my new chip, its what I was looking for to begin with. I just figured for 5 extra bucks its worth the possibility of 1 or 2 extra cores, if not I can easily clock it two 965-970 performance. It was just to easy with the last chip ya know, 2.5 to 3.5 ez-pz on almost stock voltages, anyways have you messed around with the chip you got yet, don't forget to keep me updated on that. Its a really cool chip I already miss it lol.

Yeah I tried that and went to 1.4 vcore and cpu-nb to 1.25 and still no luck. I also set my ram from 1600 to 1333 and went from 1t to 2t, and set the rest to auto and it switched the timings from 9-9-9-28 to 8-8-8-24. I'm kinda worried about setting the voltages to high with my MB(Biostar 780L3G) 3+1 phase, no vrm cooling, etc.. but I might try it with a little more voltages just to see and if the unlock call it good and then go back to X4 til I get a better board, which I am open to suggestions on. Thanks for the info though. + rep for helping to all.

Unfortunately it looks like you just have a defective 4th core

I was able to unlock my athlon x3 450 straight away. I didn't have to wait any time at all for the machine to post.

If you really need the cores over speed then you could maybe down clock 100Mhz or something and see if that works or just unclock 1 core instead of 2 but with that board i wouldn't do much

Yeah I was thinking that to, I'm going to give up til I get a new one. I really don't need 5 or 6 cores but it would have been good to know there there and stable if I ever do. Besides this really is a good chip regardless. Well thanks for all the help guys and I will update this thread when I get my new Mb. 12:35 A.M., 11/5/11, this is beezweeky signing off.
