Help pick out a receiver? - Page 2

Is the only difference between the 609 and 509 that it supports 7.2 over 5.1? I don't mind buying new speakers, I was actually planning to order some anyways, this just lets me finish my build faster. Is 7.2 noticeably different compared to 5.1? I'm going in about 4 hours to pick up the 509 but if its worth it I'll buy the 609 and wait on the bookshelf speakers till next week.

Like I said, the Sony's will work fine to get you started. They're not going to be anything to write home about. If you WANT to pickup better speakers, I've given you two decent budget options for solid speakers. I'm actually going to be setting myself up with the BIC Venturi's next spring for my 7.2 setup.

5.1 to 7.1 / 7.2, the difference is the amount of speakers obviously. Most sound sources are only 5.1 though (as I'm finding out). I have to use 7.1 / 7.2 though because my room is stupidly laid out.

I read your post right before I left and ended up going with the 509, it came out to $146 new after taxes. I also placed an order for the Polk Monitor 40's in cherry I was going to go with the BIC's but I couldn't pass up the cherry colored casings on the Polks.

The 609 has bigger amps, better connectivity, and zone 2 amps, from what I can tell...I'm sure there's more to it than that.
