Netbook Owners

I know some of us Linux users have netbooks, I am making a recommendation to at least try Joli OS. I have recently switched to it and have been extremely impressed. A heads up it is a cloud based OS.

What would it do for my netbook?

It is more responsive than windows. It allows you to dual boot by default (for the noob users) and it is a cloud OS. Anywhere you go you are connected to whatever you link it to. It has dropbox built into the OS as an applet, as well as googledocs.

It's not a bad distro but I think Bodhi really has it beat. To each their own. I just fear the day Apple decides to go really crazy and sue Joli for it's layout looking similar to the iOS one.

I was installing Joli Cloud (I think it was joli) and it got to some point in the install where it wanted a facebook log in to continue install and I was like

So I ended up using a slimmed down Arch.

As much as I like the principle of so much information up there in the cloud and everything built into the OS, I think I'd much rather just build my own, extra-light Linux build using Arch or similar and just install Dropbox and/or Google Docs (etc) normally. Doesn't every Linux distro nowadays allow you to dual-boot, anyway? How much space does it use up on the hard disk?

You have to create an account with jolicloud you can use your facebook to login. I chose not to use facebook and made my own account. So far so good. I ran arch on my netbook for a while with lxde/xfce and still wasn't as impressed as I am with this. Don't get me wrong its nothing to shout in the streets about but I do like it.

@Korlus Yes all distros allow dual booting, thats why I added for noobs. And yes I could always build my own distro for my netbook, but I am an IT professional and tend to have less time to tinker with things and want them to just work....

Joli is pretty good for netbooks. Btw lloyd, add 'ForwardX11 yes' to ~/.ssh/ssh_config instead of running ssh -X every time.
