6950 is giving me fits! Help!! - Page 6

Off the wall question ... but what the heck, try everything ...

your PSU connection to your MoBo ... you got the 8 pin connected in right ? not just 4 pin and left the stupid plastic cap on the plug like I did when I got my new Gene-z redface.gif

600w SHOULD be enough, I've got a BFG LS-680 and run the TOXIC which requires more juice, have 16GB ram, and several exta case fans ... and still have left over juice, not sure I could run X-fire, but it would be close, so you shouldn't be low on power, unless you don't have enough coming in at the MoBo, which is Why I bring up my first point.

Did you change resolutions after you took out the 560 ti? I notice on your benchmark it states you're running the 6950 at 1920x1080 but you also mentioned the 560 ti got a higher score on a resolution of 1600x1050. I know you've tried a different 6950 but have you tried putting back in the 560 ti? Did you change anything else since you took out the 560 ti? A lot of times people forget to mention the video card wasn't the only thing they changed.

I am running out of idea.

Reset CMOS, load BIOS Optimized Defaults and disable all CPU power saving features?

Motherboard with latest BIOS?

Turn off CPU Hyper Threading?

Edit:

Take picture of the setup, the PSU, motherboard, all the power connection, display connection HDMI, DVI, VGA etc.

Might think of something else to try after looking at those pictures.

After formating and OS re-install, did you update DirectX, Netframe, VC++ etc?

Thank you so much guys for all of the support over the evening!

The benchmark seems fine (and the Ti was on another monitor...but the slight edge in score would have been very similar on my current monitor - so they seem to be throwing punches) but regardless of that, game play is awful. I’m comparing my experience with the 560 Ti, and this card seems…much poorer in performance. And that throws me for a loop!

I do have the power settings in CCC set to 20%, the connectors are all in place (without caps!  ) and everything is set in place.

I’m running out of ideas as well, but I refuse to let the 6950 get the best of me!

To this point, I can’t thank all of you enough – the OCN community for seeing me through this so far. You all are fantastic!

I'll post a few pictures of it when I get home. All of my software is up to date/par. The ONLY thing I can think of is the PCIe port (blue one in the pic) Im using could be giving me issues. I'll have to try the next one.

Good catch here! I added a sound card to the setup. Nothing really strenuous...see link...but perhaps it could be pushing a power issue?

I do have it in nice and tight, so I highly doubt that might be an issue - but its a great point, I checked on that as well. frown.gif

The PSU has enough power, but I'm not sure if its "good" power...like, a quality PSU. After putting in my sound card, if I plug in headphones and turn the volume on the speakers all the way up, i can hear a buzz coming through the speakers - like a power leak of some kind. But then again, there were many complaining about the same issue with the card.

Thank you very much for taking the time to do that, Focus!

The BM seems fine, but the game play is a different beast - screen overlay/tears, low FPS is places...just feels like youd see the same thing on integrated video. Its awful!
