6950 is giving me fits! Help!! - Page 7

Try going to your control panel and look for Nvidia drivers, I had the same problem as you, from a 560 Ti too. I did this and I found the old Nvidia drivers to be still there and so, I uninstalled it, after that my 6950 worked perfectly fine and smooth.

Sorry at the control panel, "uninstall programs"

I did. After running driver sweeper in safe mode, installing 11.10 drivers, I still had the issue. So then I reformatted my drive completely and reinstalled Windows. And its still going on!

Im thinking its a driver conflict even though you have gone through the driver sweeper process.

Personal experience. When I first got my 6950 I installed and tried to play oblivion. My FPS would start out ok but after about 60seconds or so the FPS would slowly drop until it was permanently at 10-15FPS.

I did everything you have explained that you did with no fix found. I finally caved and formatted my SSD. PROBLEM FIXED.

I know thats not good news but like you I spent days trying to fix it. Then I realized I could just format in a couple hours. So I stopped wasting my time.

Thats almost exactly what Im going through, and it does feel like a driver/software issue. But a reformat didn't help me.

Was there anything else you can think of you did differently other than the reformat?

*edit* It also seems like it might be some kind of power issue, but with the benchmark results..I might have seen something out of the norm.

Im running 11.10's on mine with no issue.. and quite a hefty OC too. From my experience with these cards, most all [better than 90%] of problems were caused by driver conflicts.

*just for giggles, I would reset you entire CPU to stock.. and check to see if you experience the same sort of chopped game play you are seeing now.

I can tell you the 6950 is much more capable than 560.. or even a 570 [once you OC a bit]. The clock speeds I am running make it more comparable to a GTX580...

-Hope you get your driver issues worked out

If a format didn't fix it I doubt its a driver or software problem then.....

Have you tried different versions AMD driver?? My problem was experienced with 11.8 then when I formatted installed 11.2 at first and things were fixed. Then when 11.9 came out I upgraded and all was still working.

Yep! As all of us should (and sometimes do) do, I more or less just melted the CD that came with the board, and went to ASUS and downloaded the latest

That was my conclusion last night! lol - it "feels" like it would be, but it's the only driver I have for video on the machine.

You try disabling the HDMI sound? Maybe its sound drivers causing this affect?
